June 2, 2025 (EIRNS)—Today the second meeting took place in Istanbul between delegations from Russia and Ukraine toward a resolution of their conflict, which meeting is a positive achievement. This is so despite the media-financial-military-complex attempt to smear the meeting as useless, as grounds to force more sanctions on Russia, and as grounds to see U.S. President Trump’s intent for peace as a failure, and even his Presidency as in question. |
May 29, 2025 (EIRNS)—One thematic throughout the just-concluded Schiller Institute international conference, was the necessity of diplomacy and dialogue in world affairs. This was even personified in the proceedings by the participation of veteran diplomats, including U.S. Ambassador Jack Matlock, and current world leader Dr. Naledi Pandor, former South African Minister of Foreign Affairs. |
May 19, 2025 (EIRNS)—Today U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a two-hour phone call they each described as constructive and useful, in support of further work toward resolving the Ukraine crisis. Trump spoke with Ukraine acting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before Trump’s call with Putin, and afterward, he briefed several NATO nations, as planned. |
May 12, 2025 (EIRNS)—We are now in a short-term countdown for the meeting Thursday, May 15, in Türkiye, to resume talks between Moscow and Kyiv toward resolution of the Ukraine crisis, from negotiations which were broken off in April 2022, by British intervention. With the fast pace at which events are unfolding, this positive turn of events may itself be deflected. Nevertheless, there are grounds for hopeful expectation regarding this and other key opportunities. |
May 5, 2025 (EIRNS)—Today’s different zones of strategic crisis are in various phases of escalation, or temporary de-escalation, in Ukraine, in the Pakistan-India conflict, and in Southwest Asia, with the warfare and horror in Gaza the most urgent to be stopped. |
April 28, 2025 (EIRNS)—The two upcoming Schiller Institute international conferences—one in Europe soon, and one set for May 24-25 in the New York Metropolitan area (online and in person), take on special responsibilities in light of the rapidly evolving strategic situation of both danger, and of opportunity for dramatic positive breakouts. |
April 22, 2025 (EIRNS)—Amidst the continued media coverage of the death of Pope Francis, there continues to be a lack of attention to his clear words of hope and peace, and his very specific admonitions, given with profound generosity at his last hours. He said, “I would like us to renew our hope that peace is possible.” He declared, “…hope does not disappoint! Spes non confundit!” This is the title of his Papal bull, the letter issued May 9, 2024, as “the central message” for the Jubilee Year of 2025. |
April 11, 2025 (EIRNS)—We are in a situation of unprecedented turmoil, from economic shocks, financial breakdown, galloping militarization, and warfare. In the midst of all this, the very positive event took place today in St. Petersburg, where President Vladimir Putin met with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. |
April 7, 2025 (EIRNS)—We have an extremely explosive international environment, with dangers and complexities. In the forefront are the threats of war instigation against Iran, and of economic and financial chaos, from the U.S. tariff instigation hitting atop a monetarist, globalist debt system already in breakdown. There is no use prognosticating over where it will all end. Instead, the future depends on acting on the opportunities to intervene. |
March 31, 2025 (EIRNS)—There is a grave escalation of the threat of direct military strikes and warfare against Iran by the United States, with involvement of Britain. Terrible in its implications of needless death and havoc spreading throughout the region, it is part of the effort to stop the renewed diplomatic relations between the United States and Russia, whose potential cannot only resolve the Ukraine crisis, but that of other conflicted areas, even the current horrors in Western Asia. |
March 29, 2025 (EIRNS)—It took just 22 days after Donald Trump’s inauguration during his first presidency for the British and their allies in the U.S. “permanent bureaucracy” to score a direct hit to try to sink his administration, by fabricating a scandal to force the retirement of his National Security Adviser Gen. Michael Flynn. |
March 28, 2025 (EIRNS)—To make sense of the world, given the swirl of confusion all around, focus on the most important dynamic, and intervene accordingly. The priority, historic dynamic at present is the process of restoration of diplomacy between the United States and Russia. With that underway, there is positive momentum for dealing with the many other demanding problems and confrontations we face. Moreover, there is the basis for historic collaboration to build a bright future. |
March 17, 2025 (EIRNS)—President Trump and President Putin are set for a phone discussion Tuesday, March 18, on Ukraine and other topics. The big question right now is, can the mad dog U.K. “Coalition of the Willing” sabotage this process now underway of major powers in consultation? |
March 10, 2025 (EIRNS)—Changes in all directions are occurring by the day in the world strategic situation, and in people’s everyday lives. One historic pattern to be reckoned with, is the U.S.-Europe hostility. The dramatic feature of this is the mad rush in Europe for militarization—perpetrated in the name of defending Ukraine, and preparing to defend against war from Russia. |
March 6, 2025 (EIRNS)—The swirl of events continues at a dizzying speed, while bloodshed, poverty, and economic turmoil continue needlessly. For example, today the third emergency summit of the European Council took place in Brussels, on the subject of arming Ukraine against Russia, with leaders of 27 European Union nations present and at odds over funding and commitment to indefinite war-making. The major outcome was setting the time for the fourth such summit, March 20-21. Another example, today President Donald Trump signed an executive order putting a stay—for the second time—on 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, until April 2. And so on. |
Feb. 25, 2025 (EIRNS)—In the last 48 hours sparks are flying from the backfire of NATO narratives, in the circles of the Group of Seven, European Union and trans-Atlantic alignments. Though the future is still undefined, and dangers and suffering remain, the way is clearly opening for a new paradigm of security and economic benefit for all. |
Feb. 17, 2025 (EIRNS)—The future may not be determined, but it is definitive that we are at the end of the post-Cold War, so-called “rules-based order.” In the forefront of many manifestations, including the tears of the outgoing chairman of the Munich Security Council yesterday, is the meeting Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Riyadh of the U.S. Secretary of State and Russian Foreign Minister to re-establish regular relations between these powers and to confer on ending the warfare in Ukraine. |
Feb. 15, 2025 (EIRNS)—There is such a thing as natural law—not the positive law of a rules-based order, but a knowable, truthful natural order which manifests itself in justice, goodness, and universal progress. Natural law, of which we must constantly perfect our understanding, provides the only truly successful and universal basis for the organization of human affairs. It is this principle which gives support to the assertion of South Africa’s former Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor, in her remarks to the International Peace Coalition meeting of Feb. 14, that “we can be free together.” |
Feb. 14, 2025 (EIRNS)—South African leader Dr. Naledi Pandor, in her closing remarks at today’s 89th weekly meeting of the International Peace Coalition (IPC), spoke of “the spirit of Mandela,” which can bring all sides together in the common interest of the future and of the good of all people in our nation and of all nations in the world. |
Feb. 4, 2025 (EIRNS)—President Donald Trump, at a joint White House press conference this evening with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that the United States will “take over the Gaza Strip,” and build it up to what he said can even be, “the Riviera of the Middle East.” He motivated the concept by reporting that he has given this thought for months, talked to people and nations in the region, and this way, there can be stability. |
Feb. 3, 2025 (EIRNS)—It is now two weeks into the second Presidency of Donald Trump, and the world is in suspense. There are dramatic breaking developments, but the question is, where will they lead? Will it be toward solutions, or to a greater slide into chaos and danger, even to the point of nuclear holocaust? |
Jan. 23, 2025 (EIRNS)—As Phase One of the ceasefire, begun on Jan. 19, is underway in Gaza, each hour and day is the question: Can it continue? Will Phases Two and Three come to pass? Where will it go? Keeping it on track requires action worldwide, to put forward the vision of an “Oasis Plan” for reconstruction for the entire region from the Eastern Mediterranean through to Central Asia. And to move on it. The Oasis Plan approach, put forward in the 1970s by statesman/economist Lyndon LaRouche, foresaw the integrated development of plentiful water, power, agriculture, industry, and connectivity to be the historic basis for lasting peace for the region, and for all peoples. |
Jan. 13, 2025 (EIRNS)—In today’s era of nuclear weapons, the hot zones of confrontation—in Ukraine, in Southwest Asia—constitute an unprecedented danger for all humankind. Yet at the same time, this is “an historic opportunity to intervene” to shape events that can lead a course out of the danger, into an unprecedented era of development. This was the evaluation reiterated today by Schiller Institute founder and leader Helga Zepp-LaRouche, who elaborated on the reasons favorable to success, if we intervene. She referred to the fact that the old system of geopolitics and monetarism is dying, and the persisting attempts of the U.S., U.K. and Collective West to impose their will to try to continue unilateral domination will fail. |
Dec. 30, 2024 (EIRNS)—Either doom from nuclear warfare, or the success of a new, worldwide paradigm of productive relations exists as potentials for the New Year. |
Dec. 28, 2024 (EIRNS)—As of today, the last functioning hospital in northern Gaza is empty and burned out. Yesterday, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stormed the Kamal Adwan Hospital, threw patients and staff outside, smashed equipment, and set fire to the surgery room, the laboratory and other departments. Hospital Director Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya was taken into custody; his whereabouts are unknown. Other staff were arrested. Those expelled were stripped bare outdoors; any who objected were beaten. |
