Jan. 23, 2025 (EIRNS)—As Phase One of the ceasefire, begun on Jan. 19, is underway in Gaza, each hour and day is the question: Can it continue? Will Phases Two and Three come to pass? Where will it go? Keeping it on track requires action worldwide, to put forward the vision of an “Oasis Plan” for reconstruction for the entire region from the Eastern Mediterranean through to Central Asia. And to move on it. The Oasis Plan approach, put forward in the 1970s by statesman/economist Lyndon LaRouche, foresaw the integrated development of plentiful water, power, agriculture, industry, and connectivity to be the historic basis for lasting peace for the region, and for all peoples.
Yesterday, Director of the UN Development Program Achim Steiner looked in this direction, even if in the most limited way. He said there are pledges from donor nations for meeting the immediate humanitarian needs in Gaza, for the 2 million displaced people, but for the infrastructure for rebuilding, “The international community will be called upon to step forward. The private sector can also invest….” Interviewed by Deutsche Welle, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Steiner called it “an enormous uphill struggle to mobilize the resources for this huge early recovery and reconstruction work over the next years.” There have been piecemeal offers towards this, such as from Algeria, which last year pledged to rebuild three hospitals, once the gates to Gaza were opened. But the overall outlook and dialogue on specifics must now come forward.
The Schiller Institute, a year ago, launched the drive to take up this Oasis Plan initiative, for endorsements, publicity, and consideration by experts. On April 13, 2024 was the Schiller Institute conference, “Urgent Call for Peace Through Development: The Oasis Plan.” The imperative for building the means for development is one and the same as creating the basis for peace. This is the antidote for strife and warfare, which otherwise, if left unchecked in the era of nuclear weapons, can lead to the extinction of humanity.
Impetus for the Oasis Plan—even without that exact title—comes from the waves of motion demanding economic advancement everywhere as the right of humanity. Nations of the Global Majority are breaking all chains of centuries of colonialism. In Europe, key election results also reject the colonialist premises of war and impoverishment, especially the green, decarbonization hoax. The U.S. November presidential election results express the same rejection of impoverishment, warfare, and lies.
Ending the “green deal scam” was a foremost message to the World Economic Forum in Davos today, in President Trump’s presentation by video. Tomorrow he will go to California, where the vast wildfire blazes in and around Los Angeles would not be in place, had the principles of the “Oasis Plan” been applied years ago in North America, to mitigate the Great American Desert of the Southwest U.S. and northern Mexico. California hydrologists in the 1950s worked up the plan called the North American Water and Power Alliance (NAWAPA), to divert southward some of the run-off from the Mackenzie and Alaskan River Basins in the far northwest of the continent, which, over time, would have allowed vegetation and a new biosphere to ameliorate weather extremes. This would even have diminished the dry desert winds (the Santa Ana, off the inland Great Basin) fanning the flames in Southern California right now. In the 1960s, NAWAPA was before the Congress, with support from President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert Kennedy, both assassinated.
But among the most important events today, are critical moves being made to bust up the secret networks which have been conducting assassinations and all forms of government-by-lying, enforcing anti-development, and warmaking geopolitics for decades. These networks wrongfully criminally jailed Lyndon LaRouche and associates.
Trump this afternoon signed an executive order, that the secret files on the assassinations of the Kennedys and Martin Luther King, Jr. are to be declassified. He wrote:
“I have now determined that the continued redaction and withholding of information from records pertaining to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy is not consistent with the public interest and the release of these records is long overdue. And although no Act of Congress directs the release of information pertaining to the assassinations of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I have determined that the release of all records in the Federal Government’s possession pertaining to each of those assassinations is also in the public interest.”
In his first interview as President, Trump recounted on Fox News last night that it was Michael Pompeo who had told him not to release the full documents during his first Presidency. Not only is Pompeo having no role at all in the new Trump Administration—announced days ago in advance by Trump—but also Pompeo’s federal security protection has been lifted.
Today in Washington, D.C., friends of The LaRouche Organization (TLO) held a rally outside a Congressional office building under the banner, “End the Wars, Stop the Lies—Confirm Patel and Gabbard.” LaRouche activist Jose Vega, speaking at the rally, explained what was at stake in getting Kash Patel confirmed to head the FBI, and Tulsi Gabbard to be National Intelligence Director. “Know them by their enemies,” he said. Whatever their merits or faults, they are under fierce opposition, because they can throw the spotlight on the secret government.
The new TLO dossier “The Liars’ Bureau—Who wants to block the confirmations of Gabbard and Patel, and what are they trying to hide?” was made available to all 100 Senate offices, now holding hearings on Trump’s nominees, and also to many House of Representatives offices. Today the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence announced that its hearing on nominee Gabbard will be on Jan. 30 at 10:00 a.m.
Join the mobilization. Tomorrow, Jan. 24, the International Peace Coalition will hold its 86th weekly Friday meeting, to discuss the next steps in the action.
