"A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought" Schiller Institute International Online Conference, two panels Saturday, February 19, starting 10 a.m. EST The Schiller Institute will hold an international online conference on Saturday, February 19 to reassert that very sane declaration by the five nuclear powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council, which they affirmed in a joint statement on Jan. 3 of this year. The conference will also present a {solution} to the current crisis: the establishment of a new security architecture that guarantees all nations the right to security, and to economic and cultural development. To do that, a dialogue about the causes and the cures of the current crisis is urgent. In the last week of January, the U.S. Strategic Command launched the Global Lightning exercise to test the readiness of US nuclear forces under a nuclear war plan, operative since 2019, based on the assumption that the United States and NATO would be able to survive a nuclear first strike by Russia or China, then retaliate, absorb further attacks, retaliate again, etc., in an ongoing military confrontation. President Putin had announced Russia's new nuclear weapons systems in 2018, including the Avangard hypersonic missile, the hypersonic cruise missile Kinzhal, nuclear-powered cruise missiles, fast underwater drones, and laser weapons. This was an enormous shock to the western military establishment. But President Putin was responding to the 2004-2014 color revolutions and so-called "humanitarian" wars against all governments who opposed having their own nations looted. The $5 billion spent on NGOs in Ukraine alone is well known, which eventually became the Nazi Maidan coup of February 2014, on Russia’s very doorstep. On Dec. 17, 2021, Putin presented two draft treaties to the United States and NATO, insisting that there be no further eastward expansion of NATO (especially into Ukraine), and no offensive weapon systems stationed on Russia's borders. Given the lack of serious response so far, Putin has announced "military-technical measures" in the event of a definitive refusal. One American expert has written that he thinks Russia’s “military-technical measures” may include deploying sea-launched hypersonic Zircon nuclear-armed cruise missiles off the coast of Washington, D.C., which Russian experts have previously said could destroy the American capital so quickly the President would not have time to board Air Force One to escape. More and more people are waking up to the fact that there are only the proverbial hundred seconds before midnight left on the Doomsday Clock. To stop the clock, the causes of war must be addressed: 1) The hyperinflationary final phase of the trans-Atlantic neoliberal financial system; and 2) the deadly fantasy of the financial establishment in the City of London, Wall Street and Silicon Valley that they can impose their "rules-based order" in their eternal unipolar world. The root causes trace back to the shift of August 1971, prophetically recognized by Lyndon LaRouche, when Nixon effectively ended the Bretton Woods system by abolishing fixed exchange rates and thus paving the way for speculative profit maximization. This caused the increasing shift away from investments in the productive physical economy and towards speculation in increasingly exotic derivative-based financial products, and now "shifting the trillions" into the Green New Deal. From the standpoint of the physical economy, this policy of driving investments into industries with the lowest possible energy-flux density ultimately represents an extensive destruction of capital, just like investments in the military production of weapon systems. Far too many people are confused about monetary values, as distinct from real wealth. They have bought into the illusion that the share values of listed companies say something about the productivity of the economy – which they do not. Some more level-headed voices have spoken out in favor of a new pan-European security architecture including Russia and Ukraine, in a new Helsinki agreement. However, in view of the complexity of the world situation, the threat to world peace affecting all states, and the indivisibility of the security of all, it is necessary to go beyond Helsinki and create an international security architecture that encompasses the security interests of all states on earth.Just such a proposal is elaborated in a recent article published by Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche: “100 Seconds to Midnight on the Doomsday Clock: We Need a New Security Architecture!” This architecture must be based on the principles of the Peace of Westphalia; i.e., it must guarantee the interests of all states and, above all, their right to economic and cultural development. The maintenance of world peace requires a total and definitive renunciation of Malthusian politics, and requires universal access to the achievements of scientific and technological advance for all nations. This new order— the prerequisite for the survival of the human species—requires a new paradigm of thought that must draw upon the best classical traditions of all cultures at the highest humanistic level.Who can deny that we are an indivisible community of destiny? We have a choice: Either we let the clock tick away until the last of the hundred seconds has struck, and then there will be no one left to comment on the result; or we can remember that we are the only known creative species in the universe, and shape our common future together.
Two developments this week exemplify the human response to crises, the reflex to mobilize resources to save lives and the future. Argentina has completed its first round of manufacture of the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, and sent the 21,000 doses to Russia, to the Gamaleya Institute for quality control evaluation. Argentine President Alberto Fernández expressed with pride yesterday that, “Argentina has become the first country of the region to launch the production of Sputnik V … [which] is approved in more than 10 countries of Latin and Central America, and production in Argentina will help facilitate deliveries to other partners in the region. It will be a great opportunity to advance in the fight against the pandemic,” not only for Argentina but for the entire region, he said. Mass production may begin in June.In Syria, where more than 20 million people are in dire need of food, medicine and other necessities, a combined effort is reportedly underway among Russia, Iran and the Damascus government, to supply food and fuel. Regional media report that Russia intends to provide wheat to last through 2022, to relieve the terrible bread shortage. Iran has sent four fuel shipments by sea. Russia’s naval forces are providing protection. These measures are fortunately being done regardless of U.S. sanctions on Syria, some of which have been in place since 2003, when George W. Bush imposed the Syria Accountability Act. The specifics of these two instances may be different, but they are equally outstanding as exemplifying taking action when and where needed, despite the current so-called “rules-based order” of international relations, which is a nightmare of sanctions, blockades, punitive tariffs, regime-change crimes, and geopolitical confrontations to the point of threatening all-out war. The United States has sanctions against at least 26 nations. This attempt to dominate by means of “we-set-the-rules” traces directly back to the British Empire heydays, and today is still centered in London, as well as on Wall Street and offshoots. Tomorrow starts the two-day White House Leaders Summit on Climate, which absolutely is one of the worst examples of rules-based evil—an attempted green global dictatorship, based on a fraud against science. The summit’s intent, as U.S. Presidential Climate Envoy John Kerry said today, is for the U.S. to assume leadership in muscling nations to set more “ambitious goals” for how much carbon emissions they will reduce by 2030 in each nation, in order to reach carbon neutral by 2050. That, in turn, means that new, green rules will dictate what people and nations can, and cannot do, in their farming, industry, transportation, health care, to simply continue to exist. It guarantees hundreds of millions will die. It guarantees that those suffering from the pandemic and famine today will perish, without fail. Look at the latest horrors of the pandemic, continuing in the absence of the international collaboration we need to defeat the virus. In India this week, 200,000 daily new cases were registered for the seventh straight day (and despite undercounting). Yesterday, the daily count was 295,041 new cases, and 2,023 deaths in one day. President Biden is expected to announce that he will stiffen the U.S. green rules, to set a world example, so that U.S. carbon emissions will be reduced by 50% by 2030 (from 2005,) which is up from the former lower U.S. goal for that date. Kerry praised Britain today, for upping its national goal this week to a 78% reduction of carbon emissions by 2035 (compared to 1990). Late last night, the European Commission increased its 2030 carbon reduction goal to 55% (compared to 1990). This is insane. Now is the time for voices of sanity and compassion to ring out. Ironically, though the Climate Summit is a terrible occasion, the heads of state of major nations whose collaboration for mutual benefit is vital for the world, will all speak tomorrow—China, Russia, the United States, India and many others. However, there is no watching and waiting: It is the activation of every citizen that counts. The killer green fraud can be stopped. The heritage of methodology and economic programs for development to end the carnage have been especially provided to humanity by statesman Lyndon LaRouche, in his decades of work and courage. Schiller Institute President Helga Zepp-LaRouche today is putting special focus on the moral reaction to act, we call agapē, or charity. Indifference is deadly. Today, President Vladimir Putin conducted his annual address to the Federal Assembly, live to the present audience of deputies and senators, and televised nationally. In addition to his thorough discussion of plans for economic, cultural and scientific improvement of his nation—especially for youth—he strongly denounced the geopolitical attacks on Russia and other nations, incredibly dangerous given the nuclear weapons. He scored how “everyone pretends nothing is happening.” In particular, “Everyone in the world seems to be used to the practice of politically motivated, illegal economic sanctions, and to certain actors’ brutal attempts to impose their will on others by force.” He singled out the “recently exposed direct interference in Belarus in an attempt to orchestrate a coup d’état, and assassinate the President of that country….” Putin concluded his remarks on the international situation, by reviewing the nuclear arms situation, saying, “The five nuclear countries bear special responsibility. I hope that the initiative on a personal meeting of the heads of state of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, which we proposed last year, will materialize, and will be held as soon as the epidemiological situation allows.” On May 8, attend the day-long Schiller Institute international conference, “The Moral Collapse of the Trans-Atlantic World Cries Out for a New Paradigm.”
The EIR weekly out today, has its cover story under the headline, “No Development, No Peace: Start with Afghanistan,” which message applies very strongly to the intense negotiations underway this week in Doha, and for which there is only a limited window of opportunity. Events are happening rapidly. Central to the Doha talks, which have taken place Aug. 10 through today, is the Troika-Plus—China, Russia, the United States, plus Pakistan, as well as the representatives of Afghanistan and the Taliban, added to which are sessions involving other nations, in differing configurations.Meantime, within Afghanistan, the Taliban as of today claims control over the capital cities of 10 of the nation’s 34 provinces, the latest of which is Ghazni, known as the “Gateway to Kabul,” for being 130 km southwest of the capital. The Pentagon announced this afternoon that it will send in thousands of additional forces to assist in evacuating the U.S. Kabul embassy and other sites. The preliminary reports from the Doha talks show little to no result, but the process itself counts greatly. China’s special representative on Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, made the point to Doha News yesterday, that this is only the beginning, and the process must have different countries working together. The Russian envoy, Zamir Kabulov, is reported to have made a three-point proposal: 1) respect a ceasefire; 2) commit to an inclusive, intra-Afghanistan dialogue; and 3) establish an interim, shared power government, with elections to occur in two years. The Afghanistan government proposal, unconfirmed but widely reported as of this briefing, is for creating a shared power government. Among the participants in today’s talks, in addition to the Troika-Plus, are representatives from India, Turkey, and Indonesia. Also on hand are Norway and the UK, and the Organization of Islamic Countries. On Tuesday in Doha, envoys met from the EU, UK, and the United States. The only concept to make any plan work, is for a perspective, and action, on development, and agreement among major powers to make it happen. A variation on this truth that, without development, there can be no peace, is the added truth, that there can be no future at all without development. The process of reverse development—namely “green” destruction of the living conditions which people need to exist and be creative, the basis for advances in continuing productivity—is seen in another classic case of electricity black-out, like the February Texas Freeze, or the January European Near-Crash of the electric grid. This time, it was Down Under. On Aug. 9, thousands of people in New Zealand suddenly were in the dark, when the national electricity generation capacity could not meet demand, and the load-shedding system led to sudden, chaotic outages. Power is back on for most consumers, but politicians are shrieking about whom to blame. In fact, New Zealand was regarded as world leader in low-CO₂ emissions, because of having over 80 percent of its electricity supply from “renewables,” which meant mostly hydro-power for its small population of 4.8 million people. But when the green smarties started adding wind, reaching 6 percent share of national supply from 17 installations, plus adding a spot market for wholesale electricity speculation, and other hallmark green swindles, the stage was set for black outs. In Germany this week, it is notable that two major media are writing warnings against going too far, and too fast, with greenism. Die Zeit called for extending the life of the remaining four German nuclear power reactors. Today, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung lists ways the Green Party plans are unworkable to shunt electricity from Northern Baltic wind parks, to consumers cross country, because green lifestylers potentially en route, refuse to have the lines near their homes, etc. These are only rearguard quibbles, but indicative that reality is finally beginning to set in. This Saturday is the opportunity to go to core principles about what defines a successful economic approach, as presented so powerfully and historically by statesman-economist Lyndon LaRouche, in particular, 50 years ago, at the turning point time of August 15, 1971, when the Nixon Administration initiated floating currencies. The Aug. 14 conference, sponsored by the LaRouche Legacy Foundation, is titled, “So, Are You Finally Willing to Learn Economics?” Helga Zepp-LaRouche announced yesterday, “This will be an Earth-shattering event, and I’m not promising too much!”
The corrupt corporate news networks in the U.S. appear to have little news to report other than stoking flames of anxiety and fear regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, which, while coming under control within the U.S.—at least for the moment—is raging out of control in hotspots all over the world. As in nearly every critical issue facing mankind today—a rush to military confrontation between nuclear powers; a financial bubble multiply larger than any previous bubble and now spilling out into the real economy with a threatened hyperinflation; a Green New Deal being implemented by the mega-banks, shutting down the advanced sector economies and threatening genocide in the developing nations—in all of these a false narrative has been manufactured by the Malthusian spin-masters to obscure both the actual nature of the crisis and the necessary solutions. On the military side, the lies peddled in the U.S., U.K. and EU about Russian and Chinese “malign actions,” “military aggression” and “human rights violations” are laughed at in nearly every other nation of the world. The vast majority of citizens in the world have not forgotten that it was the British and the Americans who launched the genocidal “regime change” wars, from Iraq to Libya to Syria, killing tens of thousands of innocents, driving millions from their homes, not to fight terrorism, but to remove anti-terrorist sovereign leaders who would not submit to demands from London and Washington. Military aggression? Nor have they failed to take notice that it is Russia and China that have rushed to provide vaccines while the U.S. has hoarded their millions of doses above their needs. Human rights violations? On the economic side, China’s Belt and Road Initiative, offering real development through infrastructure development to former colonial nations which have been denied development under the “Washington Consensus,” enforced by the IMF and the Western banks as “inappropriate” for their state of underdevelopment, is declared a “debt trap” and a colonial trick to take over the world. Are you surprised to learn that these nations have been denied development precisely through such a “debt trap” by the neo-colonial powers, while China learned the “secret” that escaping poverty comes only through large-scale physical infrastructure, lifting the productive platform of entire nations? That was once properly known as the “American System,” a system which has long been relegated to dusty library books in the United States itself in favor of British System deregulated “free” markets Most importantly, take the COVID-19 pandemic. The world knows how China dealt with it—massive testing, contact tracing, and constructing huge new hospitals in ten days—all through mobilizing a concerned citizenry to act on behalf of the nation as a whole. President Trump praised the amazing response in China. When the pandemic reached the U.S., President Trump at first told the population the truth: “our health cupboard is bare,” he said. Decades of turning health care over to Wall Street, letting insurance companies determine medical care and usurp one-third of the healthcare budget as speculative profit, aggravated by Obamacare (and, not mentioned, by the fact that Trump did nothing to reverse the disaster), had led to the closure of hundreds of hospitals, both urban and rural, and “just in time” production to cut costs, which eliminated reserves of medicines and medical equipment. This was the truth. Sir Richard Dearlove, the former MI6 chief who ran the Russiagate hoax against President Trump, said from the beginning that we should not worry about stopping the pandemic, but rather, blame China and make them pay for the global damage. When the pandemic got out of control in the U.S., as the nation was unable to respond as a “one,” rather than “the many,” and anarchistic actions and lack of coordination created a disaster. The geopoliticians who surrounded Trump convinced him he needed to blame someone else if he wanted to get reelected. In the worst error of his presidency, he gave in to Pompeo and his ilk and began blaming China. The rest, as they say, is history. Americans, for the most part, no longer discuss what must be done to resolve the global pandemic, but are driven into a false narrative, that all that matters is who to blame. The Schiller Institute, in June of 2020, launched a campaign to resolve this dilemma, in the only way it can be resolved. Chairwoman Helga Zepp-LaRouche initiated the Committee on the Coincidence of Opposites, drawing on the work of Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa in 1453, following the bloody sack of Constantinople, who called on the leaders of nations and great religions to rise above apparent contradictions between their parochial national or religious interests, to address the universal truth, and the common aims of mankind. The Committee’s initial intention is to uplift people’s thinking processes to a level required to recognize the urgent necessity that modern health facilities be provided to every nation on Earth. If this were not achieved, it is likely that the virus variants festering in India, Brazil and other areas of mass outbreak will soon come back to haunt the advanced nations which hoarded the vaccines. The upcoming Summit between Presidents Biden and Putin—if it is not sabotaged by the anti-Russia imperial interests—is a potential moment of transformation in the current looming catastrophe. While it is obvious that President Biden has cognitive limitations, and that he has even less power to make policy within his administration than did President Trump, we must build international support for the two leaders to agree on emergency measures to stop the pandemic, as called for by the Committee for the Coincidence of Opposites. Were that to be achieved, the world would more likely recognize that the same process of global cooperation for the common good, could, and must, be employed to address the global financial crisis, to replace the perpetual wars and the threat of global nuclear war, with global cooperation in physical economic development on the model of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Join the Schiller Institute on June 26-27 for a conference: “For the Common Good of All People, Not Rules Benefitting the Few.” The lives of all of us are on the line, but the creative powers of all of us provide the means to create a new universal Renaissance.
April 10, 2025 (EIRNS)—The release of the statement “What Each And Every Nation Must Do Now: Wall Street Gave Us This Crisis—LaRouche Has The Solution” initiates the final six-week phase leading to the May 24-25 Schiller Institute International Conference, “A Beautiful Vision for Humanity in Times of Great Turbulence!”
April 6—The United Nations Human Rights Council, at its April 5 session in Geneva, voted up a resolution calling for all nations to end arms shipments to Israel, and related measures. The vote in the 47-member nation council was 28-6, with 13 abstentions. Voting against the resolution were the United States and Germany. The resolution calls for not only investigating Israel for commission of war crimes, but for investigating potential war crimes by all those nations now abetting Israel.
In the incoming German government there are two 'Green' Party ministers—Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Economics and Energy Minister Robert Habeck—who epitomize a grave threat also emanating from others in governments across the trans-Atlantic nations. With one hand they are anti-carbon climate extremists, who demand sacrifice of the economy—reliable power, heat, livestock growing, farming, industry and all—to "the planet"; with the other, they demand war preparations and diplomatic and military confrontations with Russia and China, two of the major nations that refuse to sacrifice their economies to "the planet." At a much higher level than these two new ministers, among the financial oligarchy whose centers are the City of London and Wall Street, there are the likes of British central banker and now UN envoy for Climate Action and Finance Mark Carney, who organizes bankers publicly to order companies—"Get out of fossil fuels and carbon or disappear." Carney's close "Green Deal" colleagues and friends are Prince Charles, Sir Michael Bloomberg and like billionaires, for whom President Joe Biden spoke at the "FLOP26" so-called climate summit in Glasgow, when he said that China's President Xi and Russia's Putin "would have to answer to the world for not showing up" at that summit. Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, along with the elites of the Atlantic Council, Chatham House/Royal Institute of International Affairs, focus their confrontations and provocations on the claim that Russia's about to invade Ukraine, and China is about to attack Taiwan. But the more and more obvious failure of the "Green New Deal" and the threat of energy hyperinflation and financial crisis, makes them take blaming adversaries for that failure to its extreme—which may bring on war. As former Army Colonel and former Virginia State Senator Richard Black warned yesterday, either of these confrontations could become nuclear war. Just at this crisis point, a Nov. 30-dated report from the New York Federal Reserve Bank began to acknowledge that the very strategy associated with banker Carney and Prince Charles—"shifting the trillions" of investment funds out of all carbon-related industries and into a green finance wave, or bubble—is hastening the global banking crisis they are afraid of. The report, "How Bad Are Weather Disasters for Banks?" found that these disasters are not bad for larger banks at all, to put it mildly. But more seriously for the Carney-Bloomberg "shift the trillions" cabal, the report concluded that "our findings suggest that potential transition risks from climate change warrant more attention than physical disaster risks." We emphasize "transition risks" because "the fundamental transition" has become the underhand for Green New Deal among Prince Charles/Carney forces. Here is Charles at Glasgow: "What is needed is a vast military-style campaign to marshal the strength of the global private sector. With trillions at its disposal ... it offers the only real prospect of achieving fundamental economic transition." Now the International Energy Agency, a creation of the Davos World Economic Forum, has upped its already economically absurd "forecast" of global additions to electric power capacity in the next five years, to say that 95% of it will be wind, solar and biomass electricity. Back in 2018 the London Guardian, writing about then- Bank of England Governor Carney, observed that "climate risk" for many companies was the risk that Carney's carbon-disclosure bank committees would go after those companies and force them to go green or face disinvestment or bankruptcy. Now, the New York Fed admits "banks could face outsized losses" from the "transition to a low-carbon economy"—in other words, from the Green New Deal. These findings are summed up in a Dec. 2 op-ed by Michael Shellenberger, "The Real Threat To Banks Isn't From Climate Change: It's From Bankers," featuring Mark Carney on its cover photo. That is exactly the direction from which a banking crisis and financial crash are now coming. For a decade, central banks have been printing money to inflate away the vast "everything bubble" of primarily corporate debt since the 2008 crash. It didn't work until the addition of the Green New Deal, the drive to "shift the trillions" to unreliable and anti-productive zero-carbon technologies, which are unleashing hyperinflation and chaos. So the financial elite and political leaders driven by them want to distract with anger, hatred, in some cases even hysteria against the adversaries, Russia and especially China, which continue to push for economic development in underdeveloped countries as well as at home, and which stiffen resistance in the developing world to "climate colonialism." Now, as Helga Zepp-LaRouche said today, we go to a Putin-Biden videoconference "summit" tomorrow midway between peace and war, "that gives you an idea how close we are actually to a brushfire which could go all the way up to nuclear war." Insisting on development in the countries which have suffered the worst crimes from the war party—she is focused on Afghanistan—is the way to fight that threat.
June 1—Back in the late 1970s, a much younger Henry Kissinger warned his banker patrons that, in a period of profound global crisis, Lyndon LaRouche’s views and policies could quickly become hegemonic—and that that is what made him so dangerous to the Anglo-American financial Establishment.
April 16—As governments and leaders from all over the world prepare, either to confront, or to flinch from what could be humanity’s greatest moment of decision, the International Schiller Institute, armed with the method of scientific discovery of the physical economist Lyndon LaRouche, has used its just-concluded two-day conference, “Without the Development of All Nations, There Can Be No Lasting Peace for the Planet” to successfully place the work of four great thinkers—Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa, Gottfried Leibniz, Friedrich Schiller and LaRouche—at the disposal of those governments, leaders and, indeed, the citizens of a growing, worldwide “republic of the mind.” Representatives of several governments participated in the conference-process, for several hours, and expressed an excited surprise at the quality, level and depth of the questions posed, and the discussion of solutions in which they found themselves engaged. Whether it be war or peace, or prosperity or poverty, the necessity for a new security and development architecture was strongly enough felt to allow for ground-breaking applications of the most profound philosophical concepts to the most “practical” of circumstances.
June 25—“Those who look only at trees, and cannot see the forest, will give birth to a generation of saplings.” It is most important, as the past 72 hours of current history have shown, to, in this rapidly changing circumstance, “not be caught below the level of events,” as the late Schiller Institute founding member and thinker, Fred Wills, used to say. Several “analysts,” including Stephen Hall, current head of Russia Operations at the CIA, spouted off yesterday, hopefully, manically, about the imminent demise of Vladimir Putin. “In my view, if the siloviki—the senior intelligence, security and military folks—make the assessment that OK, this has gotten too crazy, then Putin’s done.”
March 9—On Monday, March 13, the heads of state of the U.S., the UK, and Australia meet in San Diego, California, to confer as the “AUKUS Partnership” on “security in the Pacific,” meaning belligerence against China and Russia. High on the San Diego agenda is submarines—building and deploying many more in the Pacific.
July 11, 2024 (EIRNS)—The July 9-11 NATO summit in Washington, D.C. concluded today, flooring the gas pedal on an all-out confrontation with nuclear powers Russia and China, crossing multiple red lines all at once. During the summit, the Biden administration announced that:
Feb. 14—The eyes of the world are once again riveted on the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and the “Urgent Request for Additional Measures” that the South Africa government filed on Feb. 12 to stop the imminent genocide in Rafah. It is a demand that the ICJ act immediately, without need of further hearings or argument, to order Israel to not carry out its announced full ground assault on the desperate and destitute 1.4 million Palestinians in Rafah, at least half of whom are children.
April 7, 2025 (EIRNS)—We have an extremely explosive international environment, with dangers and complexities. In the forefront are the threats of war instigation against Iran, and of economic and financial chaos, from the U.S. tariff instigation hitting atop a monetarist, globalist debt system already in breakdown. There is no use prognosticating over where it will all end. Instead, the future depends on acting on the opportunities to intervene.
On Sunday, September 12, 2021, in Bayonne, New Jersey, the Schiller Institute, with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Washington, D.C., and the Russian Consulate in New York City, organized a memorial ceremony on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the mass terrorist attack on the United States. It was held at the towering Tear of Grief monument, which sits just across the Hudson River from the site of the attack on the Twin Towers in Manhattan. The Tear of Grief monument, designed by Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, was given by the Russian government and people as a gift to America in 2005, in sympathy and in support of the families and survivors of the 9/11 attack.
