July 28, 2024 (EIRNS)—The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics may scar the memory of anyone who witnessed it, but perhaps it will go down in history as a turning point. There, floating down the Seine, was the vulgar, naked attack on Christianity—but, more specifically, on the beautiful, engaging and poignant moment captured by Leonardo da Vinci, his “Last Supper.” Beyond punk rock, beyond “Pussy Riot,” the intentional shock of a drag queen in the position of Christ, with a scattering of drag queens around the table as various apostles. But, of course, why stop there, when a naked fellow portraying Dionysios can sing to the assembled, and the former French Queen Marie Antoinette can appear after her visit to the guillotine, carrying her head in her arm.
July 27, 2024 (EIRNS)—On November 22, 2022, founder of the Schiller Institute and convener of the International Peace Coalition, Helga Zepp-LaRouche, issued a proposal titled “Ten Principles of a New International Security and Development Architecture.” Her statement didn’t merely take up a programmatic or step-wise approach to restoring security to a world currently experiencing the eruption of wars and chaos on a mass scale. Rather, Zepp-LaRouche insisted that her proposal be considered from the standpoint of “food for thought and a dialogue among all people concerned to find a basis for a world order guaranteeing the durable existence of the human species.” It is indeed the caliber of discussion which the world is currently searching for.
July 26, 2024 (EIRNS)—Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s statement “Call To Create a Council of Reason” begins: “In judging the outlook from the recent NATO summit in Washington, which defined Russia as the ‘most significant and direct threat,’ China as a ‘systemic challenge for the Euro-Atlantic security,’ and generally a perspective of a Global NATO, there seems to be no place anymore for diplomacy and dialogue as means to resolve conflicts.” Washington, D.C., which just hosted, not only the inhuman travesty called Benjamin Netanyahu, but far more significantly and ominously, the NATO summit, is not the place where diplomacy and dialogue find a home at the moment. That condition must be reversed; but how? A “Council of Reason,” an international association of those who dare to assert that the power of ideas, properly placed and advocated, is greater than that of armed force, must assemble, in many nations, as such councils once assembled in America, 250 years ago, in town halls, and eventually in continental congresses.

July 22, 2024 (EIRNS)—This week began in the U.S. with today’s spectacle of the Congressional committee hearing on, “Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump,” in which next to no information came out about the July 13 incident. The head of the U.S. Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle stonewalled; most Representatives fulminated, and the public still awaits the truth, after nine days since the murder attempt. To be sure, elected officials and citizens have grounds to be angry: The Secret Service insists there must be an internal investigation, with results due out not for another 60 days

July 20, 2024 (EIRNS)—This coming week’s EIR runs an article by Schiller Institute leader Harley Schlanger, on the present world threats of chaos and warfare. It opens, “When former President Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination for President Thursday night—six days after being hit in the ear by a would-be assassin’s bullet, which was less than an inch away from being a kill shot—a frail President Joe Biden was in isolation, diagnosed with COVID-19, and under enormous pressure to end his campaign for re-election. Lost in the midst of this drama is that Ukrainian soldiers are dying in large numbers daily in NATO’s proxy war against Russia, children are continuing to be slaughtered by Israel Defense Forces using U.S. weapons in Gaza and the West Bank, and NATO moved ahead with its plan for ‘Global NATO’ at its Washington, D.C. summit, committed to a confrontation with China in the not-distant future. Each day, NATO forces are at the edge of crossing ‘red lines,’ providing Ukraine’s shattered military with more powerful and longer-range missiles to target Russia, taking the risk that an ‘accident’ could lead to an escalation, to the use of nuclear weapons.”
July 19, 2024 (EIRNS)—Yesterday evening, July 18, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sent out a report on X of his latest efforts in his “mission for peace” to stop the NATO war machine, and get talks going over Ukraine. He attended yesterday’s fourth European Political Community event (begun in 2022), hosted in Britain at Blenheim Palace, attended by over 40 heads of state and leaders of organizations. Orbán’s message carried a short video of himself talking individually to such leaders as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He told each one, “Thousands and thousands are dying on the battlefield every day. We will find no #peace on the battlefield, but only at the negotiating table. My goal is to convince European leaders to make a shift to a pro-peace policy.”
July 18, 2024 (EIRNS)—In her weekly dialogue today, Helga Zepp-LaRouche said that the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump last weekend demonstrated on how thin a thread the world currently is hanging. If Trump hadn’t made the quick turn of his head, effectively causing the bullet to graze his ear instead of ending his life, this would have unleashed a catastrophic crisis, not only within the United States but in the world as a whole. Further, given that Trump is expected to push for immediate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, strategically his death would have almost certainly meant World War III in the near term.
The re-election of von der Leyen as European Commission President ensures that NATO and the EU remain committed to "Trump proofing" through military buildup.
