Tsar Peter the Great established the Academy based upon his discussions and deliberations with the Renaissance thinker, Gottfried Leibniz. Leibniz’s original memorandum in 1697 called for the Tsar to: “Establish a general institution for the sciences and the arts” with members “well versed in science and the arts and of high genius…. Import foreign things that are worthwhile, … there will be large observatories, mills, shops, pharmacies and factories, which will contain all kinds of machines and inventions actually put into practice…. Determine the exact relations of the country to determine its needs.” And whatever is needed but lacking must be obtained by imitating and perfecting what is being done elsewhere. |

Feb. 3—Within the first week after the International Court of Justice (World Court) decision for Israel to stop activities in Gaza that are clearly plausible (in legal parlance) as genocide, Israel, the United States, U.K., and a gaggle of backers have escalated both the immediate killing in Palestinian territories, and also regional strife, which can result in world war. The Anglosphere is deploying all deadly means on behalf of their killer “rules-based order”: bombing, bullying at the United Nations, and deliberate cut-off of resources for desperate people. |
Feb. 2—As you read this, the unacknowledged war on Iran, “phase three” of Global NATO’s war with Russia and China—first, Ukraine, then Gaza—is being launched by the Biden Administration. Three locations in Iraq and four in Syria were targeted and bombed, using 125 “precision munitions.” Simultaneous with these attacks, Biden appeared at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, together with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Air Force Gen. Jan. 31—On Jan. 26, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague handed down a binding order finding that South Africa had presented a “plausible case” of genocide by Israel, and further ordered that Israel immediately cease any such actions in Gaza while a full investigation is conducted. The ICJ also demanded that Israel file a report with the Court on progress made within 30 days. |
While Israel continues to kill and destroy in Gaza, with support from the Biden administration, the rest of the world is demanding a ceasefire. |

Jan. 30—It has been hard to digest the daily slaughter in Gaza, much less the foreboding sense of imminent doom, awaiting the day when the word goes out that a new epidemic has been born—born out of the lethal mixture of 1.9 million displaced Palestinians, most living through a winter exposed to the elements, trapped without proper sustenance, without clean water, without proper sanitation, living in overcrowded makeshift camps. |
Jan. 29—Last week’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling in The Hague has put the world dynamic into stark relief. It was always a misnomer to discuss the war in Gaza as merely an issue of Israel’s occupation and the ensuing response to that by Hamas. While that certainly plays a factor, it is a managed factor, a mere player on the stage of a poorly-directed drama. But it is directed, nonetheless. |
