U.S. soldier Aaron Bushnell’s ultimate sacrifice has provoked a crisis of conscience, particularly among youth, regarding the policy of the United States in allowing 30,000 people in Gaza, nearly all of them civilians and half of them children, to die needlessly in war. Shortly after his death, New York congressional Candidate, Jose Vega, issued this statement:
“Why do some of the best young people in our country, some of the most patriotic, now believe that they have no voice in our country, and no control over its actions actions, even if they have agreed to give their lives in its defense? Are they right?
“U.S. Air Force member Aaron Bushnell, 25, died on Sunday after setting fire to himself outside the Israeli embassy in Washington DC. A video was posted online, showing Bushnell shouting ‘Free Palestine,’ while declaring that the United States would no longer be complicit in the genocide of Palestinians.
“We mourn serviceman Bushnell, but we must also act to give people a true, living alternative.
"As an independent candidate for U.S. Congress in NY-15, I endorse American statesman and economist Lyndon LaRouche’s Oasis Plan for the immediate relief and economic development of the Gaza area, and in the greater region. Utilizing the most advanced technologies in science and industry, the region will be transformed from an arid desert, into a blossoming oasis, with plentiful water, energy, and irrigation for the millions of Israelis and Palestinians who will live side by side in peace.
"Only in this way can we, through the LaRouche Oasis Plan, bring back to life the humanity and mission of the United States. In this moment of nationally-stirred conscience, can an intensive, solution-based national and international discussion be provoked, to revive the faith of the best of Americans in their nation.
All are invited to join us for tonight’s discussion. Feb. 29 at 9:00pm Eastern.
