Dec. 17—It is one week to Christmas.
Today’s EIR conference, “Peace on Earth, or Humanity’s Doom: The Case for Negotiations,” had the specific mission of a clear trumpet call, to send a wakeup call to a sleepwalking world. As Helga Zepp-LaRouche put it: “This program is actually a call for people to really wake up to the incredible danger in which mankind finds itself…. Putin on Dec. 9th, in a press conference in Bishkek, at a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union, where he basically said that Russia has to rethink its nuclear doctrine. I’m now using my own words, that up to now, Russia had the idea that they would only use nuclear weapons if the existence of the Russian territory would be existentially threatened. He said that may have to be changed; that they would have to learn from the United States.”
Why would Putin make such a statement? Perhaps he actually heard what the U.S. declared, that the U.S. allows itself a first-strike nuclear policy, and doesn’t think such a thing be left unaddressed. Putin is not one to flinch.
Putin is accused of every sin in the world, but when he actually says that Russia is now considering a first-strike policy… silence. Thunderous silence.
Who better than Lyndon LaRouche’s movement, than EIR and the Schiller Institute, to sound that trumpet call, to break that deadly conspiracy of silence? An act of courage can be contagious. Witness FDR’s timely, “We have nothing to fear… but fear itself.” Or, as Senatorial candidate Diane Sare puts it, being on the hit list of the Myrotvorets gang is a badge of honor.
Is it such a miracle that the long-slumbering true nature of the United States republic could come back alive again? It is not as if there’s a lack of cooperative partners, ready and willing, amongst the BRICS, the SCO, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Global South, to welcome such a revived U.S. republic. Is it a miracle for the better angel of our nature to come alive?
Perhaps so. But how jaded does one have to be to deny the possibility of a Christmas miracle? Does not Western civilization and the U.S. republic deserve a new dispensation?
Would you want to have anything else on your mind, anything else preying upon your soul, this week?
Your friends and family need an appropriate gift. Peace.
