May 31, 2025 (EIRNS)—It was famously said by Milton that Lucifer would rather “reign in Hell, then serve in Heav’n”; the Western elites are but clumsy and infantile imitators of that “lost Arch-Angel,” but very dangerous ones, all the same.
The sharp response of Russian leadership to the threat by Germany’s Chancellor Merz to give Ukraine the authority—if he hasn’t already—to fire Taurus missiles deep into Russian territory, something that no one denies would require the involvement of German military personnel, has been to make quite clear that Russia could also lift its restrictions and has the capability to strike back at the source—even if that source is the Taurus factory in Germany.
Such idiotic provocations by the impotent leadership of the EU could never succeed in winning Ukraine the war, but they very well could lead to a nuclear charged volley that begins World War III, and in short order.
Whose idea is that? Cui bono? And where are the adults in the room?
Many “adults” spoke at the Schiller Institute’s recent conference on May 24-25, at which the primary topic of discussion was developing a vision for a new paradigm for humanity: What would the principles of such a new system be? And how do we get from here to there, and in time? At that conference, Helga Zepp-LaRouche and other speakers placed great emphasis on the need for a new security and development architecture which would take into account the valid security concerns of all countries, replacing the evil geopolitical system which pits each country against all others and has gotten us into this mess. This idea is gaining momentum, as seen most recently in the May 27-29 International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues that just concluded in Moscow, which was addressed by Schiller Institute representative Sébastien Périmony. The goal of the conference was to deliberate on a “fairer and more inclusive architecture of equal and indivisible security.”
It is urgent that this kind of adult way of thinking prevails. There are opportunities for steps in that direction to be taken over the coming days: Russian negotiators are planning to travel to Istanbul on June 2 for a second round of talks with their Ukrainian counterparts (will Ukraine show up?); international pressure is building to stop the unconscionable starvation and genocide in Gaza and secure a ceasefire; a High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution will take place in mid-June at the United Nations, at which a solution concept along the lines of LaRouche’s Oasis Plan could be adopted.
While the situation is dire, the possibility is just as great that an entirely different world outlook and direction for humanity will win out. The Schiller Institute and LaRouche movement have intervened with proposals for concrete solutions and shaped critical discussion and hence world events over the past 50 years—and a new, more just paradigm is now taking shape around the leadership of the BRICS+ and Global South countries.
The key question is what will the West do? Can the United States and all other nations, besides, revive the better angels of their nature, the best in their traditions, and break from the trajectory toward war and conflict?
Take Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s words to the 104th meeting of the International Peace Coalition as your marching order:
“If we don’t solve this, it may lead to the total annihilation of the human species. Help us to mobilize all our fellow citizens.”
