Aug. 27, 2024 (EIRNS)—Ukraine government officials are in Washington, D.C. and Brussels this week, demanding the OK for unrestricted use of U.S. and Western weapons inside Russia—the stamp-of-approval on a NATO invasion. This is a direct, blatant challenge to the 2020 Russian stated doctrine: Russia will use nuclear weapons, only “when the very existence of the state is under threat.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov today held a press conference in Moscow, drawing out the implications of this exact point. |
July 31, 2024 (EIRNS)—On early Wednesday morning, July 31, Israel assassinated the political chief of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, during his visit to Tehran for the inauguration of the new Iranian President. Not only was he one of the top leaders of the Hamas government, but Haniyeh was the top official involved in the negotiations for a potential ceasefire and hostage deal with Israel, therefore all but guaranteeing that a diplomatic resolution in Gaza will be taken off the table. Taken together with the fact that only hours earlier, Israel assassinated a leading Hezbollah commander in a residential neighborhood in Beirut, Lebanon, it’s clear we are on the cusp of a major war exploding throughout the entire region and beyond. |
Oct. 21—Saturday saw the convening of an emergency peace conference in Cairo, aiming to halt the rapid escalations in the Israel/Palestine theater. Heads of state and other government representatives came from across the world to add their voice for peace and call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The host of the event, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in regards to the unfolding events, asked: “Where are the values of human civilization that we have built over long millennia and decades? Where is equality of human souls without discrimination or segregation or double standards?” |
Aug. 20—The BRICS Summit will be held Aug. 22 through Aug. 24 this week in Johannesburg, South Africa. Attending in person will be all the leaders of the five BRICS members, except Vladimir Putin, who was threatened with an arrest by the imperial powers if he traveled there, for the “crime” of saving children from Ukrainian shelling of their homes in the Donbass. He will attend by live video. |
Without intervention, the Palestinian-Israeli situation is a cockpit for World War III. The strategic situation of Southwest Asia is one of incredible danger, now escalating in a way that the spill-over can ignite a global conflagration. |
April 3—It’s become so obvious that even the self-deluded bankers of the City of London and Wall Street have to admit it: They can no longer order every nation on the planet to do their bidding, and expect them to bow and scrape and obediently commit suicide. “It’s no longer a unipolar world,” a leading financial strategist at the global investment bank RBC Capital Market (Royal Bank of Canada) ruefully remarked to the Financial Times today. |
April 8—On this morning of the Schiller Institute Conference To Establish a New Security and Development Architecture for All Nations, consider the situation that confronts the citizen of the trans-Atlantic world today, and the citizens of any nation confronted with the moral and intellectual decline of the policy-making establishments of the trans-Atlantic world. |
Dec. 22—Only today did a resolution finally pass the United Nations Security Council, addressed to relieving the catastrophe in Gaza. The resolution does not call for a ceasefire, but only “to create conditions for sustainable cessation of hostilities”—wording pre-approved by the U.S. after days of haggling. Other measures in the 16 points of action address expediting humanitarian aid. The resolution passed 13 in favor, with two abstentions—the U.S. and Russia (for very different reasons). |
July 11—The confederacy of dunces meeting at Vilnius have proclaimed, with dubious conviction, that someday, somehow, Ukraine will be in NATO. This displeased “Little Caesar” Zelensky, who took to the streets of the city and, speaking at a concert clearly staged on his behalf, castigated the whole Anglosphere as “weak sisters,” for being “indecisive,” for being afraid to throw caution to the winds, get some iron in the spine, and stand up to the Russians. Another Ukrainian official, Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, went further. He explained, in an ABC interview, why the West should not fear escalating toward nuclear war. “Some countries, unfortunately, don’t really understand the current Russia. It’s not the country of Pushkin, Tchaikovsky, Russian ballet, one of the strongest armies in the world. It’s the country [of] terrorists.” |
July 1, 2024 (EIRNS)—Last week’s U.S. presidential debate showed beyond the shadow of a doubt that the post-World War II order is in a state of final collapse. The show might go on for a while longer, like the chicken whose head has been severed yet continues to run around, but there is little life left in the corpse to do much more than keep up appearances. Not only is there clearly no one home in the person of the President of the United States, but the entire political and otherwise ruling establishment has covered this up for months and even years, all the while preaching about such platitudes as “democracy,” “accountability,” and “honesty” to the rest of the world. |
Sept. 29—Hopeless would be the wrong way to describe the current situation in the world, although it certainly may appear that way to one who is dispirited. Reports over the recent days have indicated that a new banking crisis may be being ignited, now sparked by what should be the protected bastion of safety: U.S. Treasury Bonds—which have been infected by leveraged investments from hedge funds. This speculative phenomenon runs deep, as the news is only the latest development in a process that has been underway for decades, literally rotting out the economies and nations of the trans-Atlantic from underneath. |
July 13—During an interview with Russian news site Lenta.ru, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the sobering point that the deployment of Western F-16’s into Ukraine will be perceived by Russia as a “nuclear threat.” “We have informed the nuclear powers,” Lavrov said, “that Russia cannot ignore the ability of these aircraft to carry nuclear weapons. No amount of assurances will help here.” It is known that F-16’s can be equipped to carry B-61 gravity nuclear bombs, yet a distant observer, namely Russia, will have no way of discerning whether or not one is so armed. “In the course of combat operations,” Lavrov continued, “our servicemen are not going to sort out whether each particular aircraft of this type is equipped to deliver nuclear weapons or not. We will regard the very fact that the Ukrainian armed forces have such systems as a threat from the West in the nuclear sphere.” |
June 14, 2024 (EIRNS)—Saturday is the first of the two-day international Schiller Institute conference, on the theme, “The World on the Brink: For a New Peace of Westphalia!” With speakers on four panels, from ten countries, it is designed to not only review the current emergency situation of the danger of nuclear war, but to provide the concepts, courage and inspiration for a solution. |
March 4—Following the 7.8- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes which struck Türkiye and Syria Feb. 6, killing as many as 6,000 Syrians and more than 40,000 in Türkiye, the Anglo-American policy of using economic sanctions to impose genocidal conditions upon the nation of Syria has come under increasing scrutiny. The weeks ahead may be decisive for the survival of this beleaguered nation. |
April 25, 2025 (EIRNS)—On April 25, 1945, eighty years ago, Allied and Soviet forces met at the Elbe River in Torgau, Germany, East meeting West, cutting through Nazi lines after years of brutal warfare. A brass plaque near the meeting place reads: |
Dec. 23, 2024 (EIRNS)—“There is a tide in the affairs of men/ which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune.” We are now set sail on a great sea of transition, in these days leading up to January 20, and not merely as an inflection point in the United States. |
Dec. 24—On this day when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, there is little jubilation in that city. The usually festive marches in town are canceled for more somber statements about the terrible destruction the Palestinians are currently experiencing, in Israel’s self-destructive overreaction to the Hamas attack of Oct. 7 from Gaza. |
Nov. 29, 2024 (EIRNS)—The White House on Nov. 28 issued a statement in the name of President Joe Biden denouncing Russia’s “horrific” attacks on Ukraine earlier that day, using terms of self-righteous insanity. Biden pledged to continue “prioritizing air defense exports” to Ukraine, from the U.S.. The sense of the message is that Russia has no reason but “aggression” for their actions. |
Nov. 26, 2024 (EIRNS)—When Russia fired its new hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile on Nov. 21, decimating a Ukrainian weapons depot in Dnipro, it was effectively a message to the West that Russia was not playing around. The attack came after the United States no later than Nov. 17 had lifted restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles to strike Russia—and Ukraine’s ensuing use of such missiles—crossing a red line which put the U.S. in direct, open conflict with Russia. The message should have been clear: further escalation means all options are now on the table. |

Sept. 2—“The awful Shadow of the unseen power of universal history, floats, though unseen, among us.” The assassin walked up, took aim and pulled the trigger. Nothing. He pulled the trigger again. Nothing. The former President, now vice-President, was unhurt. “I have stared into the face of Death, and Death has turned his face away from mine.” Had a miracle occurred? |
May 6, 2025 (EIRNS)—The world is in shock following the eruption of military strikes between India and Pakistan overnight. On top of the already tense situation globally, this new conflict between nuclear powers represents yet another flashpoint, one which could rapidly become a global disaster. Airstrikes launched by India overnight killed a number of people in Pakistan, along with at least a dozen wounded. Pakistan immediately vowed to retaliate, and has reportedly already begun firing artillery shells into India. Leaders around the world are wisely calling for immediate calm and a silencing of hostilities. |
March 26—Swiss law required that Credit Suisse’s shareholders vote on the takeover by UBS, but UBS would not participate in the forced marriage without massive government financial commitments and a massive loss to Credit Suisse’s shareholders. The latter would not be approved by the shareholders. What’s a government to do? In a flash, they simply rewrote the law, eliminating the vote. |
Nov. 2—The Russian government today issued a formal statement through its Foreign Ministry, urging the “nuclear five” nations—the U.S., U.K., France, China and Russia—to each restate their commitment to the bottom-line policy that “We affirm that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.” Russia did this in a policy statement, which we reprint in full below, urging that “the most immediate task is to avoid any military clash of nuclear powers,” which could have “catastrophic consequences” for all of humanity. They insisted that de-escalation of the current crisis is the “top-priority task” for everyone. |
Aug. 27—The expansion of the BRICS process, including most prominently the planned January 2024 expansion of the BRICS into the BRICS 11, is among the most important developments in the world today. It is willful blindness (or, often, willful deception) that prevents those in NATO nations from recognizing that a new paradigm is taking shape in the world. |
