Edgar Allen Poe’s short story, “A Descent into the Maelstrom,” a scientific investigation of the changes in geometric relations which take place during a phase change in nature, and the role of human cognition in recognizing and investigating those changes, provides the necessary guide to reflecting on the historic phase change taking place in the world today. Poe’s characters are two brothers whose ship is caught in a great whirlpool off the Norwegian coast. As the ship is pulled ever downward towards destruction, one brother recognizes the changed geometry which exists within this vortex, different from existed in the previous space, and creatively discovers the laws of this new paradigm, saving himself, while his brother, terrified, his mind in a haze, clings to the old paradigm and plunges to his death. The world will never return to the era from which we are now departing, into a new geometry. This is true of the pandemic, ending the era of privatized health care and the deprivation of health care for the poor nations of the world; it is true of the global financial system, horribly bankrupt for decades already and now racing into a hyper-inflationary or deflationary bust, a system which can not be saved; it is true of the era of endless wars unleashed by Tony Blair’s 1999 declaration of the end of national sovereignty, unleashing the Anglo-American“ regime change” wars; and, finally, the end of the delusion of the U.S. as the “unipolar superpower” and the “end of history.” Do not imagine that this means a better world will automatically result. The world could proceed as did the seaman’s frightened brother, clinging to delusions of the dying Empire, willing to submit to economic decay, war, pestilence and famine rather than reject the false axioms, to discover the new principles required to not only survive, but to build a more perfect world. The end of the 20-year disaster in Afghanistan provides the crucial test: Will the US break from the British Empire, and act on its actual self-interest, to see Afghanistan transformed from a maelstrom of terrorism, drugs, and perpetual war into a hub for regional and continent-wide development, restoring its ancient role as the “land of a thousand cities,” the crossroad of eastern and western civilization? The British Empire, like the dinosaurs, deserves nothing better than to become extinct. Tony Blair and other spokesmen for the Empire are bellowing their rage, like Shelly’s Ozymandius, that the United States has failed to obey their dictates—or as Blair so revealingly put it, that the Biden Administration has followed the "imbecilic political slogan about ending ‘the forever wars."’ Ending such wars will, indeed, as Blair fears, mean the end of Empire. Perhaps the bloody ISIS terrorist bombs today in Kabul were aimed at stopping Biden from sticking to the Aug. 31 deadline for getting out, as the British and their assets in the US have demanded. Is it coincidence, or are the British still deploying terrorists to achieve their ends? This is the moment of truth for civilization. Lyndon LaRouche’s concept of the “Four Powers” required as a minimum force to end the Empire, is now before us. The four great cultures of Eurasia—China, Russia, India, and the United States (as the distilled representative of European culture)—can unite at this pregnant moment to make Afghanistan a model for ending the disintegration of nations around the world, suffering from the decades, or even centuries, of deprivation, poverty, and colonial slavery. From this, a new Bretton Woods financial system can be molded by the same Four Powers, and the grateful nations around the world which would join in the deliberations. From this, the replacement of the failed monetary system can be replaced with a Hamiltonian credit system to fuel the recovery of the collapsing western economies, driven by the export of the capital goods demanded everywhere to lift every nation out of poverty, becoming modern industrial nations. China’s Belt and Road Initiative has demonstrated the efficacy of such an approach. This is not just the moral thing to do; without it, disintegration and nuclear war are virtually inevitable. Mankind has faced such moments of peril in the past. In some, the failure to act led to descending into dark ages and depopulation. In some, people of vision and creativity led in forging a new Renaissance—Nicholas of Cusa in 15th-Century Europe; Zhu Xi in 12th-Century China, Harun al-Rashid in the 8th-Century Golden Age of the Abbasid Caliphate, and the Gupta Golden Age of the 4th and 5th Centuries. The Confucian Renaissance taking place now in China gives hope for the future, but in the age of supersonic transport and the colonization of space, any true renaissance must be truly universal. This is precisely the message of Lyndon and Helga LaRouche over the past half-century, one which can and must be achieved—or as Helga Zepp-LaRouche often states, an era in which “we all can leave the age of immature adolescence behind us, and enter an era of adulthood, in which we concentrate on the common aims of mankind.”

Desperate War Hawks Risk Launching World War III in Ukraine and Southwest Asia |
Thanks for tuning in tonight at 8pm ET. We look forward to seeing everyone at this weekend’s US conference of the Schiller Institute. |
Sept. 1, 2024 (EIRNS)—Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern began his presentation for last Friday’s meeting of the International Peace Coalition thus: “It’s nice to be on with some people that have some semblance of sanity these days…. Elections still mean something. They still have a very determining effect on the behavior of world leaders. I’m thinking not only of the U.S. election in November, but of the elections coming in Germany … I’m told, reliably, that there a lot of Germans that don’t like Scholz’s policy with respect to Ukraine—the provision of arms, and the knee-jerk support for this new initiative, the initiative proposed by the U.S.” —actually, decreed by the U.S.—to install medium- and long-range missiles in Germany that can strike into Russia. |
Nov. 12—The Schiller Institute held an international (online) symposium Nov. 12, titled, “The Physical Economy of the noösphere: Reviving the Heritage of Vladimir Vernadsky.” It was dedicated to reviving the name, method and mission of the great Russian-Ukrainian scientist Vladimir Vernadsky (1863-1945). The purpose, as the invitation stated, was to support scientists and inspire citizens, especially young people, the world over, to confer, “to improve the condition of mankind—to develop the noösphere.” The exciting seven-hour, two panel event featured presentations by 13 scientists, engineers and policymakers, with live discussion, including questions from the world audience. The speakers represented six nations—the U.S., Russia, Italy, Germany, South Africa and Egypt—with viewership numbering in the hundreds live, and fast on the way to multiple thousands since. |
Feb. 22—On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin, after the announcement of Russian recognition of the territories of Donetsk and Lugansk as sovereign republics within Ukraine, delivered a televised speech, not to Russia, but to the world. English speakers were able to watch and hear Putin’s message as well. Putin made it clear that, whatever the delusions of those in the trans-Atlantic sector, Russia regards Ukraine as fully integrated into the NATO command and control structure. He specifically stated, “I will explain that the US strategic planning documents (such as Prompt Global Strike, released in Feb. 2007) stipulate an option of [a] so-called preemptive strike on [an] enemy’s missile systems. And we know who the main enemy for the US and NATO is. It is Russia….”Remember that Mississippi’s Roger Wicker stated on December 7, 2021, that for the United States, “Military action could mean that we stand off with our ships in the Black Sea and that we rain destruction on Russian military capabilities…. We don’t rule out first-use nuclear action. We don’t think it’ll happen. But there are certain things in negotiations if you’re gonna be tough that you don’t take off the table.” Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, on the Tucker Carlson program, responded the next day to Wicker, “This is why it is such a dangerous situation that we are facing, as we are being pushed closer and closer very quickly … to a hot war, a nuclear war that would destroy the world as we know it,” she said. The article “If Russia Invades Ukraine, Sanction China,” subtitled “Putin has found an economic lifeline in Beijing that only Washington can destroy,” (see slug) shows what the real target here is. There is now a motion for human progress, for world economic and technological development, and against depopulation, involving well over 100 nations. It is especially represented by the recent alliance between Russia and China, the “China-Russia joint statement on International Relations Entering a New Era,” properly identified by Patrick Lawrence as “a global order most of humanity has awaited throughout the postwar decades—all seven of them. This is immensely positive.” The “magnet for development” known as the Belt and Road Initiative, the more advanced version of the 1996 New Silk Road deliberations involving Helga Zepp-LaRouche and the Schiller Institute, was first announced, it should be remembered, in Kazakhstan in September, 2013, by President Xi Jinping. This was just before the Ukrainian government rejected the European Union-Ukraine Association Agreement on November 21, deciding in favor of the Eurasian Economic Union. The elected Ukrainian government of Yanukovich was then overthrown by the “economic hit men,” including Victoria Nuland and others. Today, the Doomsday politicians can and must be defeated by a new security architecture, based on peace through development and the LaRouche Four Laws. The Schiller Institute’s social media presence and its interventions into religious, academic, intelligence, and national institutions, using the speeches of our recent conference, cannot only save lives, but make that new architecture a reality. Thousands of citizens standing up, not for personal freedoms, but for “the benefit of the other,” for peace through development as the means to end world war, is the only path forward for humanity. In this year of LaRouche, if the name for peace is development, the name for development is LaRouche’s Four Laws. The International Schiller Institute is therefore launching a mobilization which will release a statement in the next 24 hours, proposing multiple actions that all can take to help. The idea is that all our forces, and those that join us, speak with one clear voice, what Lyndon LaRouche would have called “the proper voice placement,” to achieve a precision in our desired effect — one idea across many continents. |
March 22—Bad news abounds! U.S. and NATO officials issue stern warnings of Russia’s supposedly imminent crossing of the “biological or chemical weapon attack” red line (of Iraq and Syria fame) — a red line designed as a trigger for military escalation. |
Livestream at 2pm EST/11am PST
Send in your questions to questions@laroucheorganization.com
Speakers: Harley Schlanger and Carl Osgood |
Jan. 10—Now, at the beginning of this New Year, the world is poised to speak and to hear of the Zepp-LaRouche Ten Principles. The Schiller Institute “Ten Principles” text, now circulating for more than a year, was always intended to catalyze a response from individuals and institutions, creating a contemporary dialogue of civilizations and cultures completely inconceivable to the dullards of diplomacy of the trans-Atlantic nations. |
Sept. 9—The Schiller Institute’s September 9, 2023 conference “Let Us Join Hands with the Global Majority To Create a New Chapter in World History,” held one day after the 101th birthday of Lyndon LaRouche, brought together over a dozen thinkers from around the world for a powerful dialogue on the new paradigm taking shape, in the context of the historic BRICS summit last month in South Africa. |
Why did we get into a 20 years’ war in Afghanistan? The British Prime Minister told us the United States had to. Tony Blair came to Chicago two years before that war started, and said the United States has to “protect” people from undemocratic governments London doesn’t like, by taking those governments out. The term “regime change” was born.Clinton agreed? Did anybody say no? Lyndon LaRouche did. He called it restoring the British Empire with U.S. forces. Nine months before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. LaRouche warned a major terror attack was coming in the United States to push the country into “emergency government,” and into war. That was Jan. 3, 2001. But the 9/11 attacks were launched from Afghanistan by Osama bin Laden. Didn’t everybody agree on that? LaRouche knew better. He said on radio, as those attacks were ongoing, that some other force, not Osama bin Laden, “let down the American security screen” and punctured it to make those attacks possible. Again—to push the country into “emergency government” and set it up for endless war. Does anybody agree with that? All the families of the victims of 9/11 gradually got the evidence that a foreign government—the Saudi Kingdom—helped take down that security screen for the hijackers. The 20 years’ commemoration of 9/11 is coming up, and those families wrote to President Biden: “Don’t show up! unless you declassify the FBI report on these Saudi operations first.” He may do it. And LaRouche said the Saudis would not have done that without a wink from the British. So what did we do in Afghanistan? Pushed out the Taliban government the U.K. wanted gone. Blair again. He told his Parliament it was “for the protection of our [British] people and our way of life, including confidence in our economy”; and he told “W” Bush it would be just “a short-lived exercise.” The “Blair Doctrine,” the regime-change war policy, is the failure here. And he was found by a Commission of Inquiry to have faked WMD intelligence about Iraq. But the U.K.’s top military institute is still inviting Blair to speak on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. So Biden pulled American forces out. For doing that, the former British commander in Afghanistan, a Lt. Col. Richard Kemp (ret.), demanded that the American President be, not just impeached—court-martialed as a traitor. You can read what he and Blair and other hysterical British officials said, below. Biden a traitor to what? To “Global Britain,” they said. Watch out for Tuesday’s G7 meeting, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is chairing it. The British say: They will push the United States to stay and expand in Afghanistan. And they want Biden out. What’s wrong with them? This “Global Britain, and London world financial center, all depends on American muscle being directed by British brains. As Helga Zepp-LaRouche says, without U.S. muscle, "Global Britain" is just a pea-brain. Then the United States should get out? More than that. This is the chance to throw the table over and reconstruct instead of bombing, and instead of sending U.S. troops there to confrontations with China and Russia. Let engineers go in and build in that whole region, invest in developing it. Every country in that region agrees that Afghanistan, now, is where the United States and the other great powers could finally start to cooperate in new infrastructure projects and exports of capital goods and machinery. By flipping the war script that way, maybe the United States could get finally get some justice, for what the British banks did to poor Richard Nixon and the U.S. dollar 50 years ago, on Aug. 15, 1971.

March 22, 2025 (EIRNS)—Discussion between the U.S. and Russia, as led by Presidents Trump and Putin, has walked the world back from the brink of immediate nuclear confrontation, and toward normalized relations between the world’s two largest nuclear powers—an indispensable condition for any viable and peaceful future of mankind as a whole. Within that, negotiations are proceeding toward a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, likely, according to several sources that include U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, to involve new elections in Ukraine. |
Whatever you may have been told, Russia, perhaps now the world’s leading thermonuclear weapons power, believes that it is fighting the United States, Great Britain and NATO in a proxy war, one that only foolish, uninformed people in “the West” refer to as “the war between Ukraine and Russia.” Considering that the United States has, in one year, directly deployed an acknowledged $112 billion of weapons and materiel into Ukraine, an amount larger than the entire annual military budget of Russia, and that all other NATO military, logistical, and financial aid has been in addition to that, that belief seems more than justified. |
Nov. 29—An extraordinary United Nations Security Council meeting called by China was held in New York City on Nov. 29 to discuss the deadly warfare underway in Gaza, and the urgent need to convene an international peace conference to stop the carnage. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was eloquent and specific, laying out a four-point action program. |
Sept. 26, 2024 (EIRNS)—Russia’s proposed new nuclear doctrine, presented yesterday by President Vladimir Putin, is targeted directly at the predominant “Anglosphere” fantasy, that they can use nuclear blackmail against Russia, putting missiles closer and closer to reach of Moscow, but incurring no risk to London or Washington. Moscow, in this fantasy, is supposed to play along with the narrative that non-nuclear countries are really the ones launching long-range missiles deep into Russia. |
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held what amounted to an emergency summit meeting today by video conference. Announced only two days ago, the summit directly addressed two distinct kinds of “nuclear war” being threatened against the two countries by the bellicose and bankrupt U.K.-U.S. financial Establishment: The Dec. 7 call by Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) to consider “first-use nuclear action” military strikes against Russia, using the Ukraine crisis as justification. Wicker is the second ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Despite the storm of protests from the left and the right that his remarks unleashed, the Senator has yet to retract his demented provocation. Moreover, the NATO drive eastward, along with the arming of Ukraine and other nations on Russia’s very border, is continuing relentlessly—a drive which Russia continues to warn is crossing a red-line and will lead to a Russian response. The repeated call to carry out the “nuclear option” in financial warfare against Russia—expelling them from the SWIFT global financial payments system. This would be tantamount to laying financial siege to Russia, to try to starve them into submission, as is being done against Afghanistan. This “nuclear option” was called for just last week by U.S. Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, the architect of the 2014 Nazi coup d’état in Ukraine, and it was publicly threatened by Secretary of State Tony Blinken right after the Dec. 7 summit talks between Biden and Putin. Similar threats were voiced by President Biden himself immediately before his June 2021 meeting with Putin. What did Putin and Xi discuss today when the cameras for the press were turned off? They clearly reviewed the danger of war, and their commitment to help strengthen each other’s security in the face of threats surrounding both Ukraine and Taiwan. Otherwise, the public account provided by Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov provides further insight: “Particular attention was paid by the two leaders to the need to intensify efforts to form an independent financial infrastructure to service trade operations between Russia and China,” Ushakov reported. “We mean creating an infrastructure that cannot be influenced by third countries.” Does this mean that Russia and China are about to announce that they are breaking with the dollar system, and decoupling their economies from the West? Probably not. Does it mean that they have put in place defensive measures to deal with a financial “nuclear option” launched against them? Probably so. Helga Zepp-LaRouche commented today that if Russia and China are driven to adopt full-scale countermeasures against the SWIFT system, this could well be the straw that breaks the camel’s back of the entire bankrupt trans-Atlantic financial system. Fortunately, the potential of China’s Belt and Road Initiative is available to take its place, and to replace today’s Malthusian policy of deindustrialization and depopulation with a new system focused on high-technology physical economic growth. Take a step back and consider Putin’s recent diplomacy—the same Putin whom Lyndon LaRouche frequently described as a “strategic genius” who should not be underestimated. Putin made sure to flank his critical Dec. 7 summit with President Biden: before, with a Dec. 6 summit meeting in New Delhi with India’s Prime Minister Modi; and after, with today’s emergency summit with President Xi. Another topic raised between Putin and Xi, according to Ushakov, was the intention of holding a three-way summit of Russia-India-China in the immediate future. And the United States? President Biden, along with circles that might be described as “realists” in Washington, seems inclined to seek a negotiated solution to the crisis surrounding Russia and Ukraine. But his policy palace guard—Blinken, Sullivan, Nuland et al.—is not, and for now they are dominant in Washington. Nor are the owners of the Western speculative financial system in a mood to negotiate—they can’t. Their system is in a breakdown collapse, and their only hope is to force through a transition to a fascist, Malthusian order. America, to survive and prosper, will have to adopt the pathway long-recommended by Lyndon LaRouche, of establishing a four-power alliance with the power to usher in a New Paradigm of global development—an alliance among the U.S., Russia, China and India, acting on behalf of all humanity.

April 28—The late economist and statesman Lyndon LaRouche observed years ago that the most difficult, most prohibited thing to say in American politics is: Palestinians are human beings. This is being proven again now, but by the emergence of a growing protest of young people, high school and university students and others against Israel’s slaughter in Gaza, among whom are many protesting because they believe that Palestinians are human beings, and have inalienable rights long denied. |
On March 16, the Permanent Representative of India at the United Nations, Ambassador T.S. Tirumarti spoke out against the humanitarian disaster related to the U.S. imposition of sanctions against Syria, the so-called Caesar Sanctions. Tirumarti said the sanctions should be “relaxed,” calling on the international community to act “with a sense of urgency” to help the Syrian people. He said there is an “urgent need to increase humanitarian assistance to all Syrians throughout the country without discrimination, politicization, and any preconditions.”The sanctions, which were a part of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, went into effect on June 17, 2020, and have plunged more than 90% of all Syrians below the poverty level. With the full backing of Secretary of State Pompeo, the U.S, Special Envoy for Syria Engagement, James Jeffrey, exposed the hypocrisy of U.S. policy in his explanation of the actual intent of the Act. While insisting that “We’re not demanding total victory, we’re not saying that Assad has to go,” Jeffrey said that the goal of the Act is to “make it clear to anyone who wants to rebuild Assad’s Syria that that cannot happen without Caesar sanctions,” until there is a government in Damascus that carries out US demands with what Jeffrey described as “real eagerness.” He later clarified that anyone, or any nation which engages in economic activities in Syria is “a potential sanctions target.” The sanctions were drafted in response to a collection of photos compiled by a defector of Syrians who were allegedly victims of the brutality of the Assad government. It was delivered to the opposition group, the “Syrian National Movement”, which passed it on to Human Rights Watch, (HRW) which released it in an 86-page report, “If the Dead Could Speak: Mass Deaths and Torture in Syria’s Detention Facilities.” Critics of the report point out that, of the 28,000+ photos included, only a “couple dozen” could be confirmed by HRW activists, who claimed to have “meticulously verified dozens of stories” of people who died in Syrian detention centers. Many of the others were Syrian soldiers murdered by terrorists, or victims of assassinations and bomb attacks done by terrorists. In passing the bill, no significant voice in Congress was raised about victims of U.S. torture in Iraq or Afghanistan, or about the civilian toll of the “War on Terror,” or about the millions whose lives are endangered by the sanctions. Also of note is that the publisher of Wikileaks, Julian Assange, who published classified U.S. documents reporting on torture and other atrocities carried out by U.S. military and security forces occupying Iraq and Afghanistan, was not hailed as a “hero” — as the defector and HRW activists have been — but is left to rot in a jail in London, awaiting extradition to stand trial in the U.S. Helga Zepp-LaRouche and the LaRouche Organization are demanding that the sanctions be lifted immediately.

July 30—The Schiller Institute today released an international joint press release with a declaration condemning the Ukraine Center for Countering Disinformation, a Ukrainian government agency with direct funding from the U.S. State Department and other U.S. and UK government agencies, which published a list of 79 prominent international figures whom they accused of being propagandists for Russia. The first 30 individuals on the target list were speakers from around the world who spoke at one of the Schiller Institute conferences held this year, demonstrating that the Schiller Institute has proven to be the greatest threat to the U.S./UK/NATO use of Ukraine to falsely justify its economic warfare against Russia, as well as the military proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. The declaration was signed by an initial group of 25, with more signatures expected. |
July 17—Consider what our situation is. Given the fact that we are on a trajectory towards war, this won’t change until we force a break in the process, a stop to the confrontation, and a clear signal that there can be cooperation. Until this happens, the danger escalates. |
Jan. 31, 2025 (EIRNS)—Barely two weeks into the second presidency of Donald Trump, the world strategic situation is one of unresolved tension, with contradictory signs issuing from the White House as to what to expect. It is a period in which dedicated organizing activity around clear-headed solutions to the existential crises facing Mankind can move mountains. |
April 22—Today, the TLO endorsed candidate Sare for Senate organized a Manhattan Town Hall meeting in New York City, both in-person and online, under the theme, “Putting Away Childish Things: America in a World Without War.” The event saw over 120 attendees from New York and other states, along with around 90 online participants. The gathering brought together diverse political voices that collectively called for the United States to return to its anti-colonial philosophical roots and commit to building a community of sovereign nations, in the spirit of John Quincy Adams, Franklin Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy. The printed program for the event stated that the participation of the speakers did not constitute an endorsement by them of her Senatorial campaign. |
Aug. 7—As organizer Cynthia Rush reported from our August 6 worldwide mass intervention carried out yesterday, “Humanity for Peace events held in several Ibero-American (and Asian, African, European, etc.) locations yesterday, even the smallest ones, were characterized by optimism and a fierce commitment to ‘reason and truth,’ as one Dominican friend described it, on behalf of One Humanity.” |
