Nov. 1, 2024 (EIRNS)—In Southwest Asia, in addition to Israel’s continuing genocide warfare in Gaza and southern Lebanon, Israel this week perpetrated the emblematic act of bulldozing into the ground buildings in the West Bank provincial capital of Tulkarem, where the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has been carrying out aid to the Nur Shams camp. UNRWA, mandated since its founding in 1949 to provide aid to Palestinians in the transition to Palestine becoming an independent state—a transition wrongfully extended for decades, has been unilaterally outlawed this week by Israel, and is now physically under destruction. In Lebanon, one estimate of the devastation there is that nearly a quarter of all buildings have been destroyed in 25 municipalities near the border with Israel.
Oct. 27, 2024 (EIRNS)—There is currently an escalation of both nuclear war danger, and of censorship against any forces opposing the war drive. These threats are worsening, even as the BRICS process grows and provides leadership in a dramatically positive direction for a future for humanity. The BRICS is now formally 22 nations—nine permanent member states, and thirteen "partner nations.
Oct. 23, 2024 (EIRNS)—Today was the second of three days of the Oct. 22-24 BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. The agenda saw heads of state and government of the nine member nations meet privately in Restricted Access mode, then in expanded format. The Summit released a Declaration, “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” and on the sidelines, dozens of meetings are taking place, including among the 15 other heads of state and government in attendance, as well as among the 36 foreign delegations present this week.
Oct. 22, 2024 (EIRNS)—Today in Berlin, Helga Zepp-LaRouche warned at a China-Germany human rights conference of the immediate danger of nuclear war. This evening evening the China daily Global Times paraphrased Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche that: “It is probably impossible to speak about human rights without addressing the immediate danger to the very existence of the entire human species—war in Ukraine and war in the Middle East, which risk escalating into a global nuclear war. The highest priority for all people must be to rise above geopolitics and the notion that nations or groups can impose their interests on others by any means is fundamentally flawed.”
Oct. 11, 2024 (EIRNS)—We’re at the point of decision in two realms of terrible, and needless, conflict: Ukraine and Southwest Asia. Will it be diplomacy, or the short road to World War III?
Oct. 1, 2024 (EIRNS)—As of today, the United States is involved in hot warfare in Southwest Asia—not readiness, not contingency, but engagement. At nightfall today, local time, some 180-200 ballistic missiles were fired from Iran to Israel, in retaliation, according to the Tehran statement today, for Israel’s Sept. 27 assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Hezbollah, and other named leaders. Two U.S. destroyers, the USS Cole and the USS Bulkeley, fired 12 interceptors back at the missiles, joining in the Israeli defense.
Sept. 30, 2024 (EIRNS)—The evil war drive of the U.S.-backed Netanyahu Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Southwest Asia is heading into full-fledged regional combat, even to nuclear obliteration, as dramatically as is the crisis of the NATO-proxy warfare by Ukraine against Russia. This latter threat has not abated even though there so far is no formal, public approval by the U.S. for Ukraine to use deep-strike weapons into Russia. That remains pending.
Sept. 21, 2024 (EIRNS)—The week of high-profile events in and around New York involving heads of state and government, and others, at the United Nations has already begun. The UN General Assembly General Debate of spokesmen for 134 nations will run Tuesday, Sept. 24 through Sept. 30. The UN’s pre-programmed Summit for the Future runs Sept. 22-23. The UN Security Council has three special sessions.
Sept. 14, 2024 (EIRNS)—The Sept. 13 White House meeting of President Joe “Collective” Biden and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was very short, with no press conference, and a White House readout of one paragraph. According to the U.S. account, the two national leaders went through a litany of joint agreements recommitting to indefinite war and conflict: “iron-clad” backing of Israel, “unwavering” support for Ukraine; “serious concern” and antagonism to Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, and so on.
Sept. 2, 2024 (EIRNS)—The results of the Sept. 1 elections in Thuringia and Saxony indicate the re-emergence of a peace movement in Germany, even if not definitive nor widespread. The points in common across winning parties in eastern Germany yesterday were: No, to continued weapons to Ukraine; and Yes, to restoring diplomacy to resolve the crisis.
Aug. 27, 2024 (EIRNS)—Ukraine government officials are in Washington, D.C. and Brussels this week, demanding the OK for unrestricted use of U.S. and Western weapons inside Russia—the stamp-of-approval on a NATO invasion. This is a direct, blatant challenge to the 2020 Russian stated doctrine: Russia will use nuclear weapons, only “when the very existence of the state is under threat.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov today held a press conference in Moscow, drawing out the implications of this exact point.
Aug. 26, 2024 (EIRNS)—This morning a wide-ranging Russian drone and missile strike hit many locations across Ukraine, resulting in electricity blackouts, selected water outages, rail disruption and other impacts. Strikes were delivered in the regions of Kyiv, Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk, Lvov, and other major cities. At the same time, a barrage of Ukraine drones aimed inside Russia were repelled.
Aug. 16, 2024 (EIRNS)—There is an escalation underway in the dynamic toward nuclear war. At the same time, there is an escalation—in a “pre-war” mode—of attacks on persons, agencies and nations who oppose the war paradigm, and insist on seeking and making known the truth. These were the opening points presented by Schiller Institute leader Helga Zepp-LaRouche at today’s 63rd weekly meeting of the International Peace Coalition, and also taken up in the remarks by Scott Ritter, former Marine and UN weapons inspector. He said, speaking of defending a free press, that there is a “Duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people.”
Aug. 5, 2024 (EIRNS)—We face a double crisis today: The stage is set in Southwest Asia, centered on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—backed to the hilt by the United States, for regional escalation to world war; and there is also the crack-up of the Western casino-financial system, which, unless replaced, means financial-economic chaos.
July 30, 2024 (EIRNS)—Yesterday, a report calling for even more U.S. military build-up was released by the Commission on the National Defense Strategy, initiated by Congressional action in 2022. After stating that the current security environment is more dangerous than the Cold War, the report calls for a faster, bigger U.S. military build-up than already in motion, because otherwise the U.S. would lose a future conflict with Russia and China. “A bipartisan call to arms is urgently needed so that the United States can make the major changes and significant investments now rather than wait for the next Pearl Harbor or 9/11,” it states.
July 22, 2024 (EIRNS)—This week began in the U.S. with today’s spectacle of the Congressional committee hearing on, “Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump,” in which next to no information came out about the July 13 incident. The head of the U.S. Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle stonewalled; most Representatives fulminated, and the public still awaits the truth, after nine days since the murder attempt. To be sure, elected officials and citizens have grounds to be angry: The Secret Service insists there must be an internal investigation, with results due out not for another 60 days
July 20, 2024 (EIRNS)—This coming week’s EIR runs an article by Schiller Institute leader Harley Schlanger, on the present world threats of chaos and warfare. It opens, “When former President Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination for President Thursday night—six days after being hit in the ear by a would-be assassin’s bullet, which was less than an inch away from being a kill shot—a frail President Joe Biden was in isolation, diagnosed with COVID-19, and under enormous pressure to end his campaign for re-election. Lost in the midst of this drama is that Ukrainian soldiers are dying in large numbers daily in NATO’s proxy war against Russia, children are continuing to be slaughtered by Israel Defense Forces using U.S. weapons in Gaza and the West Bank, and NATO moved ahead with its plan for ‘Global NATO’ at its Washington, D.C. summit, committed to a confrontation with China in the not-distant future. Each day, NATO forces are at the edge of crossing ‘red lines,’ providing Ukraine’s shattered military with more powerful and longer-range missiles to target Russia, taking the risk that an ‘accident’ could lead to an escalation, to the use of nuclear weapons.”
July 19, 2024 (EIRNS)—Yesterday evening, July 18, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sent out a report on X of his latest efforts in his “mission for peace” to stop the NATO war machine, and get talks going over Ukraine. He attended yesterday’s fourth European Political Community event (begun in 2022), hosted in Britain at Blenheim Palace, attended by over 40 heads of state and leaders of organizations. Orbán’s message carried a short video of himself talking individually to such leaders as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He told each one, “Thousands and thousands are dying on the battlefield every day. We will find no #peace on the battlefield, but only at the negotiating table. My goal is to convince European leaders to make a shift to a pro-peace policy.”
July 13, 2024 (EIRNS)—The world has never before been in its present emergency state of danger. There is a non-functional head of state in Washington, all the while we are in the era of nuclear weapons. President Joe Biden has the briefcase with the red button always near him. The danger is hour by hour.
July 3, 2024 (EIRNS)—This year the U.S. holiday of the Fourth of July, the commemoration of the 1776 Declaration of Independence, is the occasion calling for a renewed fight against empire. Global NATO is pushing ahead with warfare and conflict, with no let-up, rejecting all proposals for peace talks over Ukraine, Gaza, and other spheres. The end point of this evil will be nuclear annihilation, unless stopped.
June 24, 2024 (EIRNS)—Today is a day of mourning in Sevastopol, Crimea, which is in a state of emergency after the June 23 Ukraine missile attacks on beachgoers, and in the Republic of Dagestan in Russia, after the weekend terrorist attacks on places of worship on Trinity Sunday.
June 17, 2024 (EIRNS)—The major outcome of the “Summit for Peace in Ukraine,” staged in the Swiss resort of Buergenstock over the weekend, is how it demonstrates conclusively that the West is no long able to coerce, or even fake, a “coalition” willing to do its bidding. This is a “strategic reality,” as noted by Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche today. The implication from this is, of course, that individuals and nations must step forward—as is happening in the Global Majority, to lead the way out of today’s horrifying phase of war, genocide, and danger of nuclear annihilation, into a new epoch of development.
June 15, 2024 (EIRNS)—The international Schiller Institute’s two-day conference, “The World on the Brink: For a New Peace of Westphalia!” got underway June 15 at a time of extreme crisis, and served as a platform for not only review of the nature of the causes of the emergency, but for statements of principles for solutions. The two-day event is organized into four panels, with 23 speakers from 11 countries, and with participation in the question-and-answer sessions from many nations around the world. The full program is posted on the Schiller Institute site, along with the archived video of the entire event.
June 14, 2024 (EIRNS)—Saturday is the first of the two-day international Schiller Institute conference, on the theme, “The World on the Brink: For a New Peace of Westphalia!” With speakers on four panels, from ten countries, it is designed to not only review the current emergency situation of the danger of nuclear war, but to provide the concepts, courage and inspiration for a solution.
