Lights Out: British Policies Are Leading to a New Dark Age—Literally

Leading Developments

Aug. 10—Don’t blame the British people for the evil policies emanating from the City of London and Wall Street. They too are now facing a long winter of darkness and hunger, because the systemic breakdown of the speculative trans-Atlantic financial system has unleashed a torrential physical-economic meltdown of the world’s energy, food, medicine and job markets.

British subjects will be facing energy bills next January that are more than double their current bills, according to new estimates from the research firm Cornwall. By the end of the year, anywhere between one-third and one-half of all British households will be facing “fuel poverty”—meaning their income after paying for energy will fall below the poverty line. That’s 35 million people in 13 million households, according to Britain’s former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

This is not some “objective problem” beyond the reach of our governments. The collapse is being deliberately fueled by the West’s suicidal policy of using sanctions to ram through total economic decoupling, first with Russia and now with China—decoupling which is successfully accelerating the process of deindustrialization and depopulation in the West itself! Every day there is a new, sadistic tightening of the screws, such as Ukraine’s announcement earlier this week that it was suspending the flow of Russian oil through the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline, which carries Russian oil through Ukraine into Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The reason? Russia is not being allowed to pay the transit fees to Ukraine, because of the sanctions straitjacket placed on their banks.

Absent a LaRouche-style bankruptcy reorganization of this entire dying system, the danger of a nuclear confrontation between the United States and Russia, and the U.S. and China, will continue to grow. As Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Antonov warned in comments to the press earlier this week, the U.S. itself is becoming “increasingly drawn into the conflict [in Ukraine], approaching a dangerous line in the confrontation with the Russian Federation.” We ignore such clear warnings at our own peril.

Similarly, absent a LaRouche-style clean out of the bankers’ Nazi-style permanent bureaucracy in the Department of Justice—which must begin with the full exoneration of Lyndon LaRouche—travesties of justice such as the recent raid on former President Donald Trump’s residence Mar-a-Lago will continue. The bankers and their hitmen will continue to try to dictate who will be allowed to be a candidate, and who will not, much as the United States has attempted to do around the world since the death of FDR. Therein lies part of the strategic significance of LaRouche independent candidate Diane Sare’s campaign for Senator from New York—a candidate who is emphatically not on Wall Street’s approved list!

Americans must regain our right to calmly and thoughtfully deliberate, to decide on the proper domestic and international policies, and to then implement them. We must demand our right to do so with other sovereign nations, beginning with China and Russia, but extending down to the smallest, poorest, or least powerful countries on the planet.

“The world has come to a crossroads in modern history. If the world were to continue along the pathway currently chosen by my government and some others, civilization will be plunged, for as long as a generation or more, into a global dark age comparable to that which struck Europe about seven hundred-fifty years ago. We must not pretend that danger does not exist; but, also, we must commit ourselves to the hopeful alternative which wise governments will prefer. Therefore, I shall speak frankly, but also optimistically….”

Those were the opening words delivered by renowned American economist and statesman Lyndon H. LaRouche on June 1, 2002—two decades ago—at the Zayed Centre for Coordination and Follow-Up in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The occasion was LaRouche’s keynote address to a conference on “The Middle East at a Strategic Crossroads.” On the dais with LaRouche were U.A.E. Oil Minister Obeid Bin Saif Al Nasseri and former Iraqi Oil Minister Essam Abdul-Aziz Al Galabi. Also present was the Foreign Minister of the U.A.E.

“Whatever U.S. policy might appear to be now,” LaRouche continued, "the reality of the present world economic crisis, will probably force some sweeping changes in U.S. policy and thinking during the near future. There is no hope for the economic revival of the U.S.A. from the present world economic crisis, without precisely such cooperation in the land-transport-based development of the Eurasian and African continents as a whole….

“If nations are not willing to establish the institutional preconditions of durable peace, including essential economic preconditions, then the immediate future of civilization everywhere, would be a virtually hopeless one. It were better to mount the life-raft. The first step, is to recognize, at last, the simple fact, that the ship, the war-torn present world financial-monetary system, is sinking, hopelessly. Then, perhaps, the proper moves toward the peace of prosperity, the life-raft, will be made by governments and others.”
