Peace On Earth, Or Humanity’s Doom? The Case for Negotiations

May 20—There is mounting evidence of the truth of Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s warning that we are living in the moment of the “greatest danger in human history.” The world is clearly divided into two diametrically opposed forces.
The LaRouche movement is conducting a month-long series of events to mobilize the population of the world to defeat the Great Reset and accompanying danger of world war. Defeating this policy opens the door for implementation of Lyndon and Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s policies of economic development aimed at increasing the number of people on the planet and our standard of living.
With the Ukraine crisis careening rapidly towards a strategic showdown, President Joe Biden called President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to propose that the two leaders hold “a summit meeting in a third country in the coming months to discuss the full range of issues facing the United States and Russia,” according to a White House read-out. The intent would be for “the United States and Russia to pursue a strategic stability dialogue on a range of arms control and emerging security issues.”Even as Biden was speaking with Putin, his emissary, Secretary of State Tony Blinken, was in Brussels egging on Ukraine into a flight-forward demand to join NATO immediately, which all sides know is a tripwire for Russia. At the same time, the U.S. has deployed two warships into the Black Sea, which Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov described as a provocation “designed to test Russia’s nerves.” He warned that U.S. military support for Kiev is turning Ukraine into a “powder keg,” and that “if there is any aggravation, we of course will do everything to ensure our security and the safety of our citizens.” What more is behind the Biden-Putin phone call is unclear at this writing. But two things are clear: 1) that the Ukraine flashpoint and the broader war danger are driven by the systemic collapse of the entire trans-Atlantic financial system, which has also unleashed a pandemic, famine, and mass unemployment across the planet; and 2) that no solution for any single crisis will work, unless the entire civilizational collapse is addressed and reversed. “I think it is dawning on more and more relevant people that we are looking at a potential complete and utter failure of civilization,” Schiller Institute founder and President Helga Zepp-LaRouche stated today. “You cannot respond to any one crisis, or collapse, or danger, as an individual phenomenon; you have to really address the entire picture as one. Because either we can catalyze some moral response from people who are willing to recognize that what is going on is a civilizational collapse, or else I think we are on a short road to disaster.” Zepp-LaRouche added: “I find it quite remarkable that this subject of a civilizational failure is becoming an issue among numerous important people, the most recent one being UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who yesterday reviewed the global response to the COVID-19 crisis and the situation of world famine, poverty, and unemployment, and he told a gathering of the UN ECOSOC that no element of the multilateral response has gone as it should. He said that last year more than 3 million people died of Covid, 120 million have fallen into extreme poverty, and the equivalent of 255 million full-time jobs have been lost. And the crisis is far from being over. He said that the crisis is ‘putting multilateralism to the test, and so far, we have failed.’ He added that a complete paradigm shift was needed.” Zepp-LaRouche went on to draw a moral line in the sand: “You have these absolutely incredible pictures of children dying right before the world’s eyes in Yemen and elsewhere, but that doesn’t stop the richest people in the world from having made a $5 trillion increase in their wealth in the last year. How can a Bezos or a Gates or all of these other creeps like Soros, how can they live with themselves, when they know that their mass of wealth is built on the corpses of so many millions of people? I think we should say it that way,” she insisted. She urged LaRouche movement organizers to not be diplomatic, but to get under people’s skin. “I think anybody who sees the combination of the war danger escalating, the famine killing millions of people in several countries, COVID raging—they must react. And against this, the leading elites are showing they are utterly incapable of dealing with this crisis.” “But I’m convinced that this fight can be won,” Zepp-LaRouche concluded, “because it beats the alternative.” The old paradigm is crashing, but if we do our job right, a new paradigm can be won, she stated. But to do that, “I think that the moral question needs to be addressed.”
Helga Zepp-LaRouche today issued a stern warning that the Green Reset policies of the bankrupt Western financial Establishment have unleashed a hyperinflationary price explosion, notably in the energy sector, coupled with a breakdown collapse of the global physical economy, including its so-called supply chains. This is careening towards “the end game of this financial system,” she forecast, and as this slams the population of the nations of Europe and the United States, “the big awakening will come.”Zepp-LaRouche laid the blame for this systemic breakdown squarely on the Great Reset’s channeling of all investment and capital flows into a gigantic green speculative bubble, on top of 50 years of Malthusian austerity policies which are responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for killing 16 million people a year through starvation. Consider some recent developments in this collapse: • The United Kingdom has escalating shortages of gasoline and of food on the shelves of supermarkets, and they are expecting major disruptions in the ability to harvest food crops this fall. The government has mobilized the army to deal with the gasoline crisis, beginning with 150 tanker truck drivers to move oil from depots to gas stations. • Italy will be raising consumer electricity prices across the board by 30% next Monday, Oct. 4. This will cause massive social and economic dislocation, and it is being blamed on global price hikes for coal, natural gas and other energy sources. • U.S. home sale prices jumped by 19.7% in July, the largest monthly increase in 30 years. They’ve been going up for 14 straight months, and the same inflationary pattern applies to rents. • U.S. shortages of all sorts of consumer and producer goods are expected increasingly through the Christmas period. The transportation system cannot move goods quickly, and major ports such as Los Angeles and San Diego have huge backups and delays. • The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and other industry groups representing 65 million transport workers worldwide today issued a public letter warning of a “global transport system collapse.” • China is facing continuing power cuts and rationing, especially in the northeast of the country. Factories are also affected and many have had to shut down, which is expected to have a big impact on the global supply chain, since China is a major producer for the world market. • The price of natural gas in Europe has quadrupled so far this year, and the international price of oil is following in its wake. Brent crude yesterday traded above $80 a barrel and ended the day at $79.09—near its three-year high. Government spokesmen and financial media are pumping out stories to explain away each of these developments as a string of unrelated events, each with its individual cause: rising energy prices, labor shortages, panic buying, supply chain disruptions, you name it. But the reality is that this is a global pattern which reflects a physical-economic breakdown that is underway, coupled with financial asset hyperinflation of the $1.7 quadrillion speculative bubble. This is a process described uniquely by Lyndon LaRouche’s famous Triple Curve function, a process which is now inexorably playing out on the global stage. Inflation in specific markets (consumer prices, raw materials, etc.) may or may not show up as such in a given period; but it is the overall hyperinflation of financial asset prices which is driving the process—in other words, the “everything bubble,” especially the derivatives bubble. Lyndon LaRouche explained this process in a Sept. 19, 2000 memorandum, “Bring Oil Price Inflation Under Control” (which we reprint in full below), in which he wrote: “Broadly, the current global inflation in petroleum prices threatens to be the detonator of a chaotic breakdown in many, if not all of the economies of the world…. The underlying cause of the crisis, of which the petroleum-price crisis is but the presently leading political-economic consequence, is a general hyperinflation in financial asset-prices, which is now being expressed, at increasing rates, as a hyperinflation in commodity prices now following a trend similar to that suffered by Weimar Germany during the interval March-November 1923…. The increasingly desperate effort to secure inflows of financial assets into the U.S. dollar sector, has seized upon several combined factors, as the opportunity to increase asset-price accumulations from hyperinflationary trends in the delivery prices of petroleum products.” Predictably, the financial Establishment centered in the City of London and Wall Street is in a real conundrum over what to do. On the one hand, they must raise interest rates and “taper” quantitative easing if they wish to contain the inflationary explosion. On the other hand, they can’t raise interest rates and “taper” QE if they want to prevent a total blowout—in fact, they have to unleash ever more extreme forms of monetary and fiscal QE (“financial regime change”) just to live to see another day. The LaRouche movement’s policy to address the crisis is the diametrical opposite of both of these failed Establishment approaches. “The only remedy,” Zepp-LaRouche explained in her weekly webcast, “is a banking separation, a global Glass-Steagall, and to replace this bankrupt system with a new one. That is what we are going to continuously bring into the debate, because this is now really the end game of this financial system.” She went on to draw out what’s at stake in Europe and the United States, and why the Schiller Institute has focused urgent attention on solving the crises in Afghanistan and Haiti, in particular: “There must be a change in attitude! Stop this depraved indifference, the notion that we are trying to get people to reflect upon. Because you have all these people in the West who aren’t even interested. They go about their business as usual. But the only way the U.S. and European nations will overcome their own problems is by focusing on the mission of overcoming the underdevelopment of the developing sector…. You invest in physical economy. You shift from speculation and profit to the idea of the common good, which always has to start with investment in real infrastructure development. “If we cannot get the West to make such a shift, then it is almost a foregone conclusion that the West will go under like the Roman Empire, because of decadence, a depraved state of mind. So we intend to shake people up. “And the way to go is to stop this geopolitical nonsense, which can only end up in the annihilation of the human species, and join hands with the countries of the Belt and Road Initiative, and have joint projects … and move civilization to a condition where the laws of the universe are also the basis of the economic and political policy. That’s why natural law does exist.”

The President of Bolivia stated on May 15 that only a global common effort can effectively fight the COVID-19 pandemic. His statement indicates what most national leaders must recognize: that international collaboration between developed nations, with the express aim of preventing mass death in the developing nations is urgently necessary. But limited as President Arce’s declaration is essentially to a global vaccination effort, it leaves the only solution to the ongoing waves of pandemic deaths still not mentioned, let alone launched. That is the arduous project of building, as rapidly as humanly possible, a modern system of hospitals, clinics, and trained public health workforces in every nation on Earth. The vast majority of nations now don’t have such a modern health system and are devastated, both in human lives and economic destruction, by this pandemic. The Schiller Institute’s Committee for the Coincidence of Oppositions, initiated in 2020 by Helga Zepp-LaRouche and former U.S. Surgeon-General Dr. Joycelyn Elders, urges and demands this project be launched now, and that the Global Health Summit in Rome May 21 discuss it and call for it. Such an undertaking must begin with a summit of major powers, such as the UN Security Council P5 heads of state and government summit repeatedly proposed by Russian President Putin. We must “stop the next pandemic,” yes, but the “next pandemic” is COVID2021, still spreading out its wave of deaths, and COVID2022. Nations with advanced disease monitoring and treatment capabilities and workforces can save their populations. Consider: The United States in the very serious 1957 influenza pandemic took no unusual mitigation measures, not even extensive vaccination—yet had only half the number of deaths per population as the rest of the world at that time. Why? Because it had built up its then-modern hospital/clinic system to 6.5 beds per 1,000 population all over the country. Today it has shut them down, and has only 2.7 beds/1,000 people. Why is the necessity to build hospitals and labs, train healthcare workforces, recruit youth, train public health monitors in every country not being discussed? Decades of neglect have driven the very idea out of public discussion of the pandemic. The Committee for the Coincidence of Opposites is determined to reverse this. Helga Zepp-LaRouche said on May 15: "We need a huge effort, in as many countries as possible, to organize to be published our Committee’s ‘Global Health Security’ statement. In Asia, Africa, Ibero-America, they know that our program is what they need. We should organize a steamroller to get massive circulation in publications, in blogs, through social media, etc. “We should have a team of people from the Task Force this week doing nothing but brainstorming how to get the statement published—and immediately organizing to do so. We should do this in all countries where we have members. We should contact former Health Ministers, and former members of governments generally, and many who have made positive statements about our proposals and initiatives. “We have a major problem internationally,” she said "a mismatch between the quality of our conferences and much of our published material, and, on the other hand, the numbers of people who are really listening and watching…. We have top speakers from governments and institutions who are grateful to speak on our platform, giving them access and visibility that is crucial, and not otherwise available. We open up potentials as on the Rogue Money platform for the [May 8 Schiller Institute] Conference. But the outreach is not adequate. “We need the biggest mobilization with our world health system statement. Anyone who has been open to our ideas…. We should get 20-50 publications of the statement in the coming days.”
Aug. 25—As it can sometimes happen, as if providentially, the personal and the historical come together in a moment of great happiness. Today is a special birthday of Schiller Institute founder and leader Helga Zepp-LaRouche, which caps off a week of momentous events, shifting the world onto the direction of economic development, justice and peace, which she has championed for a lifetime, alongside her husband Lyndon LaRouche.
The Schiller Institute hosted an international webcast on Saturday, August 21, “Now, More Urgent Than Ever: Afghanistan—Opportunity for a New Epoch for Mankind,” bringing together speakers with wide experience, from six nations—United States, Germany, Pakistan, Canada, and Italy. Three main themes were struck repeatedly in the dialogue: Toss out the “endless wars” paradigm completely, talk to the new Afghan government-in-the-making, and get economic projects going.“Push for quick economic development,” was the advice by Helga Zepp-LaRouche in her opening remarks. Saying that what’s happened in Afghanistan marks “the end of a system,” maybe not as big as the Fall of the Wall and the end of the Soviet Union, but as portentous. There has been a deep-seated problem of conducting never-ending wars, and geopolitical games. This must stop, and it goes beyond Afghanistan as such. She stressed also that, “It is high time to change the axiomatic assumptions about Russia and China.” Besides Zepp-LaRouche on the panel, there were Lt. Col. Ulrich Scholz (ret.) (Germany), a military and philosophy expert; Pino Arlacchi (Italy), former head of the UN Office for Drug Control (1997-2002), now professor at Sassari University; Hassan Daud (Pakistan), CEO, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province Board of Investment; Ray McGovern (U.S.) former CIA analyst and co-founder of the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS), and Nipa Banerjee (Canada), Professor at the University of Ottawa. A question was taken up from Khalid Latif, director of the Center of Pakistan and International Relations (COPAIR). The co-moderators of today’s event, Dennis Speed and Diane Sare, pointed out that today’s discussion is a continuation of the dialogue of the July 31 Schiller Institute event, “Afghanistan: A Turning Point in History After the Failed Regime-Change Era,” and several of the same individuals are involved. Sare noted the importance of the Schiller Institute in restoring the dialogue process, saying that, “people are losing the ability to have a dialogue” these days. Instead, we have ideological hysteria, as seen right now, with the fixation on accusations and blame over the logistics of the Kabul evacuation process, with no vision for the people and the future. Within two weeks of the Schiller Institute’s July 31 event, presenting a development overview for Afghanistan and the region, the 20-year U.S./NATO military action came to an end. The Taliban took over Kabul. Today there were meetings in Kabul among Taliban political director Abdul Ghani Baradar, former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation head Abdullah Abdullah, and others toward an eventual formation of a government, to be announced some time shortly after Aug. 31, when the evacuation period concludes. What we don’t need now, said Arlacchi, is “Talibanology”—speculating on their intentions and hypotheticals. Many others agreed, making the point that the intentions to be focused upon, are those of the major powers: What do the U.S. and the European Union intend to do? Will they, for example, work together with other major powers of Russia, China, and India as well as immediate neighbors of Afghanistan—Iran and Pakistan, and the Central Asian nations to the north, on humanitarian aid and economic initiatives? One in three of the 39 million people in Afghanistan are food insecure. There are dozens of thousands of internally displaced people, and thousands fleeing the nation. All this, with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing. Arlacchi reported his own past experience on a wool factory project in Kandahar Province, involving successful negotiations with the Taliban governor. In the July 31 dialogue, Arlacchi reported on the success in nearly eradicating all opium poppy cultivation over the period 1998 to 2000, through his UN program, in conjunction with the Taliban. Opium production then roared back after the U.S./NATO 2001 invasion. Arlacchi said emphatically today, “We should start to make plans on narcotics elimination” right now. On the question of accountability of the Taliban new government and projects, Ray McGovern raised the point that you can and should have a truthful monitoring process, which could come, for example from the United Nations. He raised the specific example of how the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction, set up by Congress some years back, actually kept truthful accounts on what the U.S. and NATO were doing in Afghanistan, which documented that U.S. officials were lying about progress there all along. Prof. Banerjee strongly agreed on this point. These Inspector General documents were published in 2019 by the Washington Post, described by McGovern as “the one useful thing done by the Washington Post in the last 20 years.” Principal author Craig Whitlock, has just released his new book, The Afghanistan Papers: A Secret History of the War. The features of economic development for the region were summarized today by Daud, whose Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in Pakistan borders Afghanistan, which has “national endowments, minerals, water, hard-working people.” He stressed that, “when the Afghanistan government is strong and stable, it can reach out to China,” and work with the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in which it already has observer status. It can become “a crossroads of the region.” In the past, this very region was referred to as a “land of a thousand cities,” Zepp-LaRouche stated in concluding the discussion. The idea of the New Silk Road, is again to create conditions for hundreds and thousands of new cities—science centers, and beautiful, modern new cities. The old paradigm is crashing down, not just in Afghanistan. War can no longer be a means of solving problems.
May 2—There is an important, essential conception that Helga Zepp-LaRouche and Jacques Cheminade have presented in recent discussion and presentation. Referring to the 2024 Presidential election in the United States, Helga said, “this election campaign will take place in these two years of the biggest danger of history, ever. And I think that this is why we should really conceptualize this in a different way, and warn people against the danger of polarization, and the need to have the kind of national unity, instead; and not only national unity, but to try to move toward an international approach, to solve the existential crisis.”
The United States’ Mars lander Perseverance successfully touched down on Mars today at 3:56 p.m. EST, as the Mars spacecraft from China and the United Arab Emirates, which had arrived just days earlier, orbited the planet. It’s hard to conceive of a better image of the one humanity embarked on a common mission which speaks to the essence of Man’s role in the universe: Hope, Questions to the Universe, and Perseverance. In her weekly webcast yesterday, Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche spoke of this mission: “This is the future, and if mankind is supposed to live as an immortal species—and that was a notion which was coined by my late husband—because we are different from other species, because we have creative reason. We can solve any problem through scientific and technological breakthroughs, by discovering new laws of the universe. And since our mind is the most advanced part of that universe, there is all the reason for optimism that once we attune our own existence and our own practice with the laws of the universe, our chances to become the immortal species is absolutely there. But it does require space travel as a precondition, and I think this idea of nations working together to discover the beautiful secrets of the universe, that gives you a taste of what the future of man can look like, when we decide to become adults.” In your mind’s eye, contrast that image of Man as a creative, spacefaring species, with the image that has led to the current plummeting Potential Relative Population Density across the trans-Atlantic region, with all of its consequences: a planetary pandemic; forever wars and the risk of nuclear conflagration; mass unemployment and desperate waves of migration; and now a dramatic drop in the average life expectancy in the United States itself. According to a new study issued by the CDC, in the first six months of 2020 alone, average life expectancy dropped by a full year: from 78.8 in 2019, to 77.8 through June 2020. That is the single largest drop since World War II, and reflects both the direct and indirect impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. and internationally. The point is straightforward: It’s the physical economy, stupid! And the essence of human physical economy is limitless breakthroughs in fundamental science and classical culture, of the sort portended by Man’s Mission to Mars. As Helga Zepp-LaRouche put it in her latest webcast: “At this point, the only voice of reason is really coming from The LaRouche Organization and the policies promoted by my late husband. But it needs a broad mobilization of the population to change the course of these developments.”
Harley Schlanger, a spokesman for the Schiller Institute and The LaRouche Organization, gave the following presentation at the Schiller Institute Conference on January 22, “A Difference in Leadership – Can a War with Russia Still Be Averted?”, following presentations by Russian Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy and Schiller Institute President Helga Zepp-LaRouche. HARLEY SCHLANGER: What I will show is that the U.S. official position -- that Russia is the cause of the problem, and Russia has to back down, Russia has to move back its troops and so on -- is either based on ignorance of history, or an arrogant view of the U.S. as the unilateral enforcer of a “rules-based order.” What I intend to show is that it’s the latter.Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said the other day, that ignoring Russia’s legal concerns over the eastward expansion of NATO to include Ukraine and a deployment of forces, including weapons, near the Russian border, will have the most serious consequences. In stating this, he was repeating the formulation that I think is the most clear from President Putin, from his annual press conference on December 23rd. I want to read the quote from President Putin: “Our actions will not depend on the negotiation process, but rather on unconditional guarantees for Russia’s security concerns. In this connection, we have made it clear that any further movement of NATO to the East is unacceptable. Is there anything unclear about this? Are we deploying missiles near the U.S. border? No, we are not. It is the U.S. that has come to our home with its missiles, and is already standing on our doorstep. Is it going too far to demand that no strike systems be placed near our home? What is so unusual about this?” In listening to that, it’s very striking the similarity to the argument made to the American people on October 22, 1962 by President Kennedy, as to why he had to adopt a quarantine—which was actually a blockade—of Cuba, to stop the import of further Soviet missiles, during the 13 days of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Here’s what Kennedy said in that speech to the American people: “In the world today, due to the destructive power of nuclear weapons and the swiftness of ballistic missiles, any substantially increased possibility of their use, or any sudden change in their deployment may well be regarded as a definite threat to peace.” He talked about the build-up of the Soviet Union’s missiles in Cuba, and added:“In an area well known to have special and historical relationship to the United States,” and I might add parenthetically, exactly as Ukraine does with Russia today, “the sudden clandestine decision to station strategic weapons outside of Soviet soil, is a deliberately provocative and unjustified change in the status quo which cannot be accepted by this country.” I think you’ll see in his language, something very similar to what President Putin is saying today, which is why many people, including Helga, have called this a reverse Cuban Missile Crisis. I want to give you a quick view of what the idea of a “unipolar world” is, and what it means. The people who argue for the U.S. to be the main power, start from the standpoint that we’re “democratic,” we’re “good.” Therefore, when we deploy missiles, it’s for the good. As Dr. Andrey Kortunov (of the Russian International Affaires Council) told us: when the Russians deploy the missiles, since they are “bad,” these are “bad missiles” and have to be opposed. From that standpoint, we have to look at where this idea comes from. The underlying issue today, which is called into question by President Putin’s insistence on legally binding security guarantees, is that the construct of a unipolar world is dead. The whole idea that there’s only one nation on the planet which, because of its immense military power and economic power, can dictate the rules to the rest of the human race, and use satraps such as the European Union and NATO to help enforce it, no longer applies. The Western financial system is collapsing. There’s a further point, though. In reality, this idea never really existed, except in the minds of those who enforced it and tried to convince the rest of the world that it had no choice but to accept it. They believed that the collapse of the Soviet Union left them with no military obstacle to impose their unilateral decisions on strategic and financial matters. We’ve talked about this before. Helga brought it up again this afternoon. What is the “rules-based order”? Well, for the unilateralists, it’s the rules that sustain their control over the global economy. This goes back to a merger during the George Herbert Walker Bush administration, and actually before that. It occurred during the Reagan administration with the emergence of the Democratic Leadership Council taking over the Democratic party with its so-called “Third Way,” which became the approach of the Clinton administration. The idea of the neoconservatives and neo-liberals essentially joining as an American force to impose this unipolar world. In particular, it was the neo-cons who were the most arrogant, with their Project for a New American Century, in which they insisted that the United States had emerged as the only power on the planet. Therefore, they created a narrative to explain why everyone else has to march to the tune of the United States. The narrative starts with, “We won the Cold War.” Second, the victory in the Cold War was one of “democracy” and the “free market.” The third point: This means that every nation must submit to those who won the Cold War, because we’re the good guys; we did what was right. The fourth point, which is usually not expressed, is that this means there’s no more sovereignty, no morePeace of Westphalia, as Tony Blair blatantly stated repeatedly in trips to the United States. The idea that there’s a common good is no longer acceptable. The idea that there should be no interference in other nations’ internal affairs, which was part of the Peace of Westphalia, is no longer valid. That the “common good” is whatever the unipolar power insists on. I want to give you a sense of what the so-called “democratic order” that this “rules-based order” has done in the world in the last 30 years.
May 26—The Schiller Institute online conference today titled, “U.S. and European Military and Security Experts Warn: The Insanity of Politicians Threatens Nuclear War,” featured presentations and exchanges between four military and strategy specialists from France, Italy and the United States, and with Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche, and moderator Dennis Speed. Within hours of the event, views on YouTube were approaching 2,000.
In reponse to the announcement that Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States are forming a new alliance called the AUKUS scarcely two weeks after withdrawing from Afghanistan after twenty years of disaster, Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche said that this new alliance is a mindless extension of the policy of endless war. Instead of abandoning Afghanistan to the hell that twenty years of military intervention followed by a shutoff of international funds have created and leaping into a new and totally unnecessary escalation of conflict with China, the United States and other NATO countries must immediately act to do good, to repair the damage of Afghanistan and the other unjust military adventures of the past two decades, through a policy of real development.Zepp-LaRouche laid out the needed approach in her September 5 statement "Can ‘The West’ Learn? What Afghanistan Needs Now!"The needs are urgent; the situation today in Afghanistan is horrendous. Despite a much-hyped sum of $1.2 billion assembled early this week from donors conference, Afghanistan remains largely cut off from sources of funding that are required to keep its people alive. Over $9 billion of the country's banking reserves are frozen by the United States. The World Bank has shut down a major health program required to maintain the system of clinics and hospitals that serve the population. The World Food Program warns of tens of millions of people already facing food insecurity or threatened with it.But after withdrawing from Afghanistan following 20 years of disaster, instead of working to rebuild that nation, the United States has rushed into a new catastrophe — a new British Empire alliance targeting China as NATO already targets Russia. The Australia-United Kingdom-United States AUKUS alliance among what its imperial masters charmingly call "maritime democracies" was announced on Wednesday, focused squarely against China.
This news service, together with the Schiller Institute headed by Helga Zepp-LaRouche, have mounted a global mobilization to identify two existential threats to humanity being openly advocated by governments in the trans-Atlantic region—the Green New Deal and the drive for nuclear confrontation with Russia and China. Over the past 24 hours, major responses to those dangers from leading figures in the United States have been issued, which must be given mass circulation among people of good will internationally.First, just days after the release of the EIR Special Report, The Great Leap Backward—LaRouche Exposes the Green New Deal, the warning in that report concerning the deadly result of dependence on the primitive energy forms of solar and wind was demonstrated in the form of the devastation in Texas and other states due to a polar vortex, a phenomenon which is to be expected by anyone thinking long term about the conditions of life. With wind turbines frozen and the solar panels buried in snow, more than 4 million people have been left without power in freezing temperatures. The former governor of Texas, Rick Perry, who also served as President Trump’s Energy Secretary, provided a first-hand account of the disaster on the Tucker Carlson Fox News show Monday night, in terms very similar to that of the EIR Special Report. “We started taking down the coal plants, then the nuclear plants,” Perry said. “We’ve got to have a diverse energy supply which will be there when you call on it. That means fossil fuels, LNG, compact nuclear reactors. We have to look at fusion reactors—there’s great progress being made in that field right now. I don’t hear the new administration, the Green New Deal, talking about anything other than solar and wind.” He forecast ten years ahead, if we were to have an “AOC world” with only solar and wind, when the next polar vortex hit: “If you don’t have power to keep warm, you’re going to die! There are countless lives that can be lost with the kind of reckless adhering to a philosophy like that. It’s not scientific. We heard all the time during the campaign, ‘You have to stick with the science.’ Well, the science tells us, if you have just wind and solar, it’s going to get awfully cold in the winter, and awfully hot in the summer.” Secondly, on Saturday Feb. 13, the Schiller Institute sponsored a Round Table Forum: “Worsening U.S.-Russian Relations—Reverse Them with New Paradigm, or Face Nuclear War,” featuring a former CIA analyst, a former US Senator, and the head of the American University in Moscow, as well as Helga Zepp-LaRouche and Harley Schlanger of the Schiller Institute. This warning of the extreme danger of a war from these experts was also recently addressed by Professor Lyle J. Goldstein from the U.S. Naval War College, an expert on both Russia and China. In an op-ed in the Washington Times on Feb. 3, Goldstein addressed the “smoldering train wreck of the U.S.-Russia relationship,” that the US and Russia were “practically on a war footing.” He wrote: “The Western press is now fixated on the fate of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and related protests.” He notes that there are those in the West who would welcome a “Maidan” in Moscow, but “a Russia consumed by chaos and violence would actually not accord at all with U.S. interests.” He concludes: “Americans need to know that Russia’s massive nuclear forces are under singular, stable, and rational control—not in the grips of a fracturing state facing the possibility of civil war. Moreover, a stable and prosperous Russia will also be critical to the world’s recovery from an economic crisis wrought by the global pandemic.” This mobilization must be escalated everywhere. On Feb. 27, another Schiller Institute Round Table Forum will focus on both fronts of the Anglo-American war drive against China and Russia, and the urgency that the LaRouche solution—ending the British Imperial division of the world into geopolitical blocs through a new global financial system among sovereign states to finance the development of the world and beyond—peace through development. There is no partial solution.
Jan. 18—That is the headline which CGTN placed on a 14-minute video commentary by Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche, posted on Jan. 18 both to news.cgtn.com and also to the CGTN YouTube channel, which has nearly 3 million subscribers worldwide.
July 25, 2022 (EIRNS)—CGTN Radio turned to Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche today for her assessment of the strategic implications of the July 22 four-party Istanbul agreement to permit the export of Ukrainian and Russian grain and fertilizer, in the face of the catastrophic spread of famine across the planet.
It is quite possible that the terrible complex of crises which now stare humanity squarely in the face—the dramatically escalating flashpoint of war in Ukraine, the race to vaccinate billions of people against COVID-19, the terrible famine threatening to kill millions of people in the immediate months, the growing risk of blowout of the financial system—will mark the onset of a new, deep dark age. However, unless, like the finally deceased Prince Philip, you believe that we are mere animals, a completely different fate is equally possible—if we have the moral will to change course. While ideological troglodytes in the U.S. and Europe play a very risky and failed game in aiming for regime change in Russia and China—one which Helga Zepp-LaRouche stated is “the stuff of world wars”—those nations, along with most of the rest of the world, have made quite clear that the era of geopolitics and empire can no longer pretend to meet the needs of a growing humanity—including those humans who reside in the United States. Russia and China, and India, in particular, are pushing back very publicly against the dangerous actions of NATO and Western actors, both on the stage of strategic conflict and economic warfare. At her press briefing on Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called out the role of outside actors in stoking conflict in Ukraine, stating frankly, “All this is happening at the prompting of Kiev’s Western sponsors, with overt public support.” A widely covered article by the China Society for Human Rights denounces the hypocrisy of U.S. accusation against China of human rights abuses by documenting the humanitarian disasters caused by the U.S. in its aggressive wars, concluding “The world needs human rights defenders, but the U.S. is not qualified to act as such.” Indian officials have made quite clear that developed countries like the U.S. and European countries have no right to stop developing countries like India and African nations from building their nations to modern standard because of “net-zero carbon targets.” The World Food Program’s director David Beasley similarly pointed to the moral bankruptcy of a system in which “in 2020, a new billionaire was created every 17 hours. And all I need is $5 billion” to help the 270 million people worldwide who are on the brink of starvation. In this spirit, the Schiller Institute’s Committee for the Coincidence of Opposites has officially announced a pilot project which will deliver medical supplies, food aid and seeds to Mozambique, one of the poorest and youngest nations in Africa, to demonstrate that “we can mitigate tragic circumstances, and inspire the large-scale response needed.” Helga Zepp-LaRouche, in her weekly strategic webcast of April 7th, identified the root cause of these various crises: Not that there are no known solutions to the war, the famine, the pandemic, but that “neither in the United States nor in Europe, [is] the political establishment willing to reflect on why their policies are failing. Rather than change the policy, they say: ‘OK, let’s go for an escalation of the confrontation against Russia and China,’ and that will lead to a potential disaster.” She said, “It comes back to the question that we need a paradigm shift, where we correct those neoliberal policies which have created the condition for the pandemic to arise in the first place, and … it would require governments to change their policies … and say, ‘We go for industrialization of the Global South, because that’s the only way we can eliminate the conditions which make pandemics possible.’ And it’s a moral question! … It would be so easy to change this! … We could start to build ports, to build railways, to build cities. It could be done! And it would be the motor for Europe and the United States to pull ourselves out of the present economic crisis on top of it.” Changes in history don’t happen; they are made by those with the moral courage, and will, to break from past thinking and choose a more truthful course. If you agree, then join our fight.
Aug. 1, 2024 (EIRNS)—When Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche stated back in mid-June of this year that the next 4-5 months leading into the U.S. Presidential election on November 5, “will be—in my view—absolutely decisive whether or not we go into World War III, or if we can go to a New Paradigm,” many may have considered her forecast exaggerated or overstated.
July 27, 2024 (EIRNS)—On November 22, 2022, founder of the Schiller Institute and convener of the International Peace Coalition, Helga Zepp-LaRouche, issued a proposal titled “Ten Principles of a New International Security and Development Architecture.” Her statement didn’t merely take up a programmatic or step-wise approach to restoring security to a world currently experiencing the eruption of wars and chaos on a mass scale. Rather, Zepp-LaRouche insisted that her proposal be considered from the standpoint of “food for thought and a dialogue among all people concerned to find a basis for a world order guaranteeing the durable existence of the human species.” It is indeed the caliber of discussion which the world is currently searching for.
This fall marks the eighth anniversary of the announcement by China’s President Xi Jinping, of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), when he announced the Silk Road Economic Belt in Kazakhstan Sept. 7, 2013 and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road in a speech before the Parliament of Indonesia on Oct. 2, 2013. President Xi today addressed a symposium on the project, discussing in detail its many achievements and continuing intent, functioning as the modern-day Silk Road, for the common good of all.Helga Zepp-LaRouche, Schiller Institute President, and long known in China and internationally as the “Silk Road Lady,” for her advocacy of the concept, gave three interviews today, on the occasion of the BRI anniversary. She appeared on CGTN TV, in two interviews, one on Global Business, and another on the Dialogue Weekend program; and she was interviewed on her weekly Schiller Institute webcast, titled, “Most of the World Is Hungry for Change.” (See transcripts in this briefing.) Beginning in the early 1990s, she and her husband Lyndon LaRouche, promoted the idea of the “World Land-Bridge,” of development corridors. The latest books they issued on this were two volumes (2014 and 2018) of The New Silk Road Becomes the World Land-Bridge, along with Extending the New Silk Road to West Asia and Africa (2017). These presented details, region by region, for world economic development. In each interview today, she stressed the urgency for Western nations to rethink, and give up geopolitics and neo-colonialism, which have brought the world to the brink of nuclear war, worsening famine and persisting pandemic. Nations have been deliberately kept in poverty. These conditions, and induced strife, have produced mass migrations. She said on her webcast: “[W]e have to have a rethinking: Germany, the United States, other European countries should stop this geopolitical confrontation and say, ‘we have a pandemic, we have mass famine, we have a refugee crisis of biblical dimensions, and we must join hands and build the infrastructure, hospitals, schools, industry, agriculture, in all of these countries….’ So let’s just build infrastructure! Let’s build up Africa! This is the natural thing, and the Chinese are doing the natural things and we should stop bickering about it, because we should take a moral lesson from the Chinese in this respect.” President Xi Jinping reported that as of August 2021, some 170 nations had, in various ways, cooperated with the BRI. Now today, in terms of combatting the pandemic, 110 of these nations have received some of the 1.7 billion doses of vaccine. Zepp-LaRouche drew attention in her CGTN Global Business interview to the fact that the same principle is involved in what China calls its “Health Silk Road,” and what the Schiller Institute is campaigning for, in calling on nations to collaborate in building a world health system. This means facilities, staff, water, power, food, infrastructure. We have a moment of special opportunity now. A week ago in Glasgow, COP26 ended as FLOP26. It was a failure for its organizers—the gaggle of royals, banksters, billionaires and the like, who want nations to agree to commit suicide, in order “to save the planet.” A critical number spoke out against this in Glasgow, and their view was again restated yesterday in Abuja, Nigeria, by Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama. He said simply, while standing alongside visiting U.S. Foreign Secretary Antony Blinken at their joint press conference that Nigeria is “a gas-producing country … and we’re looking to gas to help to address our energy needs.” So, he called on Blinken to do something to stop the international financial institutions from refusing to lend funding for fossil fuels development. Nigeria has the right to use its resources and develop. Now it is the time for all humanity to step forward and take the lead. Zepp-LaRouche replied to CGTN reporter Michael Wang’s question about her opinion of the BRI at a time of uncertainties in the world: “I think it is, for sure, the most important strategic initiative on the planet right now. Because you say ‘uncertainty,’ I mean, these uncertainties show, for example, in the form of a hyperinflationary tendency: You see the energy prices skyrocketing, food prices, and we may actually head towards a hyperinflationary blowout of the entire system. And at such a moment, to have the Belt and Road Initiative which focusses entirely on the physical side of the economy, can actually become the absolute important savior for the world economy as a whole. So I think the existence of the Belt and Road Initiative is the most important initiative on the planet.”
July 22—Today, Helga Zepp-LaRouche, author of the speech “Gandhi’s Vision for a New Paradigm in International Relations, a World Health System, and Direct Non-Violent Action in Times of Social Breakdown,” will offer a strategic evaluation and remarks, addressing a Schiller Institute webcast, on July 23 at 2 p.m. EDT, in response to the breakthrough against the self-destructive and immoral policy of “war by sanctions” that occurred Friday, July 22 in Istanbul, Turkey.
On Sunday, the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation met in extraordinary session in Pakistan, and agreed upon resolutions for coordinated humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, and measures for economic functioning. Follow-up mechanisms were specified to implement the decisions of the OIC. Attending the meeting were 70 delegates, representing member countries, guest nations, international financial and UN aid agencies. The OIC, with 57 member nations, is the largest such world body after the United Nations. But even so, what determines what will happen for the Afghanistan people and nation, the greater region, and world situation, requires a shift in approach to abandon deadly geopolitics, and launch concerted positive action among major powers. This was stressed on Friday, the opening day of the three-day OIC meetings in Islamabad, by Schiller Institute President Helga Zepp-LaRouche, appearing in a discussion on Pakistan’s national television PTV, which covered the OIC proceedings intensively. She said, “In a certain sense, to get all the forces internationally together to help Afghanistan is, in my view, one of the absolute, important historical missions. In a certain, I think the whole destiny of mankind is in a laser, concentrated on what happens in Afghanistan. So I would really hope that all the participating and affected countries would double and multiply their efforts to make saving Afghanistan an issue of the whole world, because right now it is. And I think all channels must be used: media, United Nations, conferences. There must be a drumbeat, a drumbeat of awakening the conscience of the world, because I think this is sort of a judgment of our ability as a human species: Are we morally fit to survive or not?” What is happening this evening is that pledges are starting from OIC nations, on what donations they will commit, for purposes of urgent relief operations. From preliminary reports, the framework that is to administer ongoing aid includes several features. A resolution was adopted unanimously that the OIC will set up a Humanitarian Trust Fund and a Food Security Program. The OIC meeting requested that the existing Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) work with this new Food Security Program for Afghanistan, including using IOFS reserves, when warranted. The Humanitarian Trust Fund is to come into operation during the First Quarter of 2022, under the auspices of the Islamic Development Bank. In Kabul, the existing OIC Mission is to be reinforced with more logistical, financial and staff resources to enable it to coordinate operations with global agencies and partnerships. These include the obvious UN agencies, from UNICEF, to the World Food Program, and other organizations. A priority will be working with the World Health Organization for vaccines and medical supplies. There will be support for the Afghan refugees who have fled to neighboring countries, and for the internally displaced within Afghanistan. An estimated 665,000 people have been displaced just between January and September 2021, over and above the 2.9 million already dislocated within their nation. In brief, 60% of the population of 38 million people face crisis levels of hunger, and lack of necessities for life. The conference welcomed the offer by Uzbekistan to create, with UN efforts, a regional logistics hub in Termez city, to handle the shipment of humanitarian material into Afghanistan. The OIC meeting approved the designation of Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakhit Salah, Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Family Affairs at the OIC Secretariat, to be OIC Special Envoy to Afghanistan for the OIC Secretary General, to coordinate efforts, and provide reports to the OIC. The Humanitarian Trust Fund is to be up and running within the first quarter of 2022. It is reported by APP (AP Pakistan,) that there was an urgent appeal made for large-scale projects in the multi-nation region, to serve reconstruction and development. In general, this should include energy, transportation and communication projects. Two mentioned were the TAPI Pipeline, and the TAP (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan) electricity transmission line. Participants in the deliberation drew attention to the importance of the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, which met on Nov. 28, 2021, in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The second area of OIC action, alongside the humanitarian, food-aid and anti-pandemic work, concerns creating the banking, credit and related conditions to serve a re-established functioning economy, and for reconstruction. The Council of Foreign Ministers decided, according to the report by APP, that exploratory talks “to unlock the financial and banking channels to resume liquidity and flow of financial and humanitarian assistance” should commence under the direction of the OIC General Secretariat, and the Islamic Development Bank. APP added that, participants discussed “exploring realistic pathways towards unfreezing Afghanistan’s financial assets.” Here is where the outright clash comes in with the networks in London, Washington D.C. and co-conspirators, which insist on wrongfully withholding $9.5 billion in Afghanistan state assets, sorely needed for government and economic functions. An especially ugly, duplicitous public relations campaign is going on in the United States, where two open statements were issued this past week, crying crocodile tears, asserting that some of the $9.5 billion should be unfrozen, and used to “directly help the Afghan people,” but only if allocated directly through non-Kabul government, non-Taliban, UN or other agencies. One letter was from former military figures, in connection with the infamous Atlantic Council, and the other letter was from a group of 39 Congressmen, either ignorant, gullible, corrupt, or all three. No nation exists without functioning institutions. There is no independence without economic sovereignty. Withholding the funds, or arrogating decision-making over their use means destroying a nation. This will do the job by genocide, that 20 years of military presence and non-development didn’t do in Afghanistan. This is a moral test for the West. What needs to be done with the funds, and in general in Afghanistan is presented in the newly-released EIR interview with Dr. Shah Mehrabi, for 20 years on the Board of Governors of the Da Afghanistan Bank, the central bank of Afghanistan. Our role is indispensable in getting out such policy interventions, along with getting out the truth on the scale of the emergency in Afghanistan, which is being blacked out severely in the Trans-Atlantic media. The Zepp-LaRouche call for Operation Ibn Sina to bring a modern healthcare platform to the country is a call for world action. Shining the light on Afghanistan and mobilizing for what must be done, spreads understanding of the necessity to end the grip of the imperialist foreign policy and globalist financial system everywhere, now in breakdown, and threatening nuclear war. Helga Zepp-LaRouche ended her remarks on PTV Dec. 17 by summarizing, “So in one sense, I think the fate of Afghanistan and the fate of humanity are much more closely connected than most people can imagine.”
