May 16, 2025 (EIRNS)—The successful beginning of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine yesterday in Istanbul, is a de facto resumption of the process that had been aborted through the intervention of Britain’s Boris Johnson in early April of 2022.
By Harley Schlanger [This is an edited transcript of a presentation by LaRouche spokesman Harley Schlanger at The LaRouche Organization's Manhattan Project event, on October 9, 2021.] HARLEY SCHLANGER: We are in the midst of a dizzying array of events, which is enough to make the heads of even sober people spin. We have a systemic breakdown, there’s no other way to look at it. You can try to look at different sectors and what’s happening here and there, but if you take it in its totality...we’re in what Lyndon LaRouche described as a systemic breakdown. On the economy, there is inflation, energy shortages, supply chain breakdowns. Secondly, we have the accelerating collapse of infrastructure. Energy is one area, and this is not just collapsing, it’s being deliberately collapsed as part of the Green New Deal. The idea that the climate is changing for the worse, because we are trying to produce enough electricity to take care of 8 billion people on the planet, is crazy. Roads need repair, bridges are collapsing. The public health sector has been badly damaged through underfunding and privatization, as became clear with the COVID pandemic -- we didn’t have adequate healthcare capabilities to take care of the people. It’s all breaking down. Then you have on top of that, the war danger. Just one example: The Wall Street Journal had a report in the last couple of days that the United States has sent about two dozen special forces to train military layers in Taiwan. This was reported right after Joe Biden and Xi Jinping had a conversation in which Biden re-affirmed the traditional policy of the U.S. toward Taiwan, which is that there is one China, and Taiwan is a part of that. Well, why are we putting military people in Taiwan if we recognize that’s part of China? Suppose we heard that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army was training units in Texas, or in Washington state? So, one day Biden re-affirms the One China policy, and then we hear that we’re actually preparing a regime change with military forces there. And of course, the Chinese are rightfully concerned, and pointing out that this is, in a sense, an invasion. Add to this the AUKUS pact -- the just-announced Australia-United Kingdom-U.S. military pact, Asian NATO, the pivot to Asia. All of this is a pre-war targeting of China, based on the idea that somehow we can contain the second largest economy and the largest population center on the Earth through deploying military forces in the Pacific. Demanding Poverty For The Planet What has also been exposed is a moral and intellectual problem—depraved indifference. The United States is conducting policies that are killing children in Syria, in Yemen. The World Food Program is reporting that 4 million Afghan children could starve to death this winter. Where is the outcry about this? Why are we not moving to rally forces and move goods that are necessary to protect people? Not to mention Haiti, which is not too far from the United States, where we’re turning our back on that country, which has been devastated by natural disasters and outside interference. Then you have the spectacle of the U.S. Congress pretending to deal with problems, and I won’t even get into that.... And then finally, we have massive disinformation. We have lying narratives which are flooding our print and visual media, and outright censorship. We now hear that Google is moving to limit what can be said on its platforms about climate change. Soon, they will be censoring anyone who argues that the science behind [man-made] climate change is a fraud. All of this this is a prelude to the next phase of the destruction of the Western economies, which is announced in a book by Klaus Schwab, the director of the World Economic Forum, the Davos group. The book is Stakeholder Capitalism; A Global Economy That Works for Progress, People, and Planet.
Sept. 18—Today the UN General Assembly Debate begins, and will likely be one of the most tumultuous such assemblies in the organization’s history. The world is polarized on a historic scale, and not because of a so-called divisions between “democracies” and “autocracies,” as bobble-heads like Tony Blinken would have us believe.
Oct. 14—There is rank opportunism, there is criminally insane opportunism, and then there is British Prime Minister Liz “Nuke ’Em” Truss. For the past three weeks, Truss insisted: “We will decrease taxes, and we will not be deterred.” Down, down, down went the British pound. As of 48 hours ago, she says now, just as energetically and self-confidently: “We will increase taxes, and you can take that to the Bank of England!” The London Telegraph reported: “Ms. Truss had pledged not to raise the tax from 19% to 25%, which had been scheduled for April next year by (her PM election opponent) Rishi Sunak when he was Chancellor [of the Exchequer]. That rise will now go ahead as planned, scrapping one of the key planks of her campaign for the Tory leadership.” Oops!!
April 13, 2025 (EIRNS)—The May 25 Sunday morning session of the Schiller Institute May 24-25 conference, “A Beautiful Vision for Humanity in Times of Great Turbulence!” will focus on “Lyndon LaRouche, American Patriot and World Citizen.” The continued successful suppression of the ideas of LaRouche, the economist and statesman—who successfully forecast, on nine occasions, the progress of the physical breakdown crisis of the trans-Atlantic post-Bretton Woods System—must end.
June 9—Many different individuals and institutions will today call attention to the June 10, 1963 American University “Peace Speech” of the slain President John F. Kennedy. Already, yesterday, a gathering took place in Rome which featured Columbia University’s Jeffrey Sachs; Kerry Kennedy, sister of Presidential candidate Robert Kennedy, Jr.; Nina Khrushcheva, adoptive grand-daughter of Nikita Khrushchev; and Gillian Sorensen, widow of JFK advisor and speechwriter Theodore Sorensen. Katrina vanden Heuvel and James Carden published an article in Responsible Statecraft titled “What Kind of Peace Do We Seek? At 60, JFK’s Speech Never Gets Old”
April 24—Two U.S. votes during the last week—one by the Executive branch, the other by the Legislative—have set the entire planet hurtling rapidly towards general warfare in three different theaters of war: Ukraine, Southwest Asia, and China-Taiwan. Who other than Wall Street and the City of London could benefit from such a suicidal policy?
Jan. 20, 2025 (EIRNS)—Over 20,000 people joined Trump at his Presidential victory rally, Sunday, January 19 in Washington D.C. During Trump’s speech, he said:
Feb. 27—Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met on Monday Feb. 27 with the heads of the Foreign Ministry’s branches in Russia’s regions, and he reported to them that there is a “geopolitical tectonic process” underway worldwide, in which some 20 nations have expressed an interest in joining the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This is not a matter of mere organizational affiliation, Lavrov noted, but a global rebellion against colonial looting and the unipolar “rules-based order”:
April 24—A major clash is now out in the open, between those nations and leaders backing measures to produce more food, to prevent famine, as opposed to those financial and political interests, centered in the Trans-Atlantic, insistent on their rules-based and sanctions-based order, for more war and hunger. The informal roster of those committed to providing more food ranges from India, to Argentina, to Africa, and includes all the farmers in Europe, the U.S. and India, who have been protesting for years, just for the right to produce food, as well as those in Russia and China.
July 17, 2024 (EIRNS)—“There is a tide in the affairs of men/Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;/Omitted, all the voyage of their life/Is bound in shallows and in miseries./On such a full sea are we now afloat,/And we must take the current when it serves,/Or lose our ventures.”/—Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Act IV, Scene 3
Oct. 12—Over the last several days, Western governments and societies are being lined up behind the defense of Israel in a way that would make even a drill sergeant blush. As U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said when he arrived in Israel today: “We have the back of the Israeli people. We have their back today. We’ll have it tomorrow. We will have it every day.” Even Blinken was outdone by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, however, who laid on the guilt Oct. 12, when he said: “Our own history, our responsibility arising from the Holocaust, makes it a perpetual task for us to stand up for the security of the State of Israel.”
March 30—The precious indications of sanity are popping up, like early spring flowers. The ten ASEAN countries, meeting in Indonesia on the level of Finance Ministers and Central Bank governors, escalated their arrangements for trade in local currencies—delinking from the dollar, the pound, the euro, and the yen. Indonesian President Joko Widodo was most explicit about the simple reality that the geopolitical craziness that seizes Russia’s foreign reserves must not be allowed to loot their ASEAN countries.
As you are reading this, British Intelligence “influencers” embedded in the Trump Administration are attempting to force the resignation of one or more of the senior officials in his Presidency.
April 20—Strong reactions of disdain for the United States are coming forth internationally for the shameful sole vote the U.S. cast at the UN Security Council April 18, against the resolution for the State of Palestine to join the UN as a member nation, backed by 12 of the 15 Security Council members (with the U.K. and Switzerland abstaining). This was a special ministerial session, and leaders of over 40 nations from around the world came in person to speak, most all of whom gave perspectives on how moving on Palestinian statehood will contribute to the conditions for ending the carnage in Gaza, open the way for development, and finally provide security in the region. Already, 140 nations are on record for recognizing Palestinian.
July 12, 2024 (EIRNS)—The just-concluded NATO summit in Washington, D.C., was just the proverbial “nail in the coffin” on the ideological commitment of the “permanent warfare” gang to go down with the ship. As President Biden put it yesterday, in announcing the new “Ukraine Compact”: “Russia will not prevail in this war. Ukraine will prevail in this war. And we will stand with them every single step of the way. That’s what the compact says loudly and clearly.” Absent is the previous language of militarily defeating and breaking up Russia. Rather, the industrially-challenged West is to hang on by their fingertips, converting whatever capacity is left to years and years of warfare, selling their populations on their grand mission, while the future of their families and children disappear. Hitler in his bunker, praying for the salvation of Wunderwaffen, had better odds.
Feb. 21, 2025 (EIRNS)—The subtitle of the City of London’s Feb. 20 The Economist article “How Europe Must Respond as Trump and Putin Smash the Post-War Order” was even more revealing than the headline: “The region has had its bleakest week since the fall of the Iron Curtain. The implications have yet to set in.”
June 3—Whether it is Robert Habeck, the Economics Minister of Germany, Mario Draghi, the banker busboy from the Britannia royal yacht, “Clueless Joe” Biden, Boris Johnson, Scholz, Macron, or any of the nearly interchangeable Janet Yellens, Ursula von der Leyens, Christine Lagardes, pick any member you wish of the “governing-managerial class” and you will find them either helplessly or intentionally worsening whatever condition they claim to be improving in every field, in every way.
The shocked post-mortems offered so far by the authors of this disaster show a stubborn refusal to face reality. Living comfortably inside their fantasy-ridden bubble, Democratic strategists ignored polls which showed that 70% of voters said the country is “moving in the wrong direction.
Aug. 3, 2024 (EIRNS)—The horrifying prospect of imminent warfare should frighten anyone with a clear view of the world. Only an immense good can counter the evil inherent in the present situation.
Oct. 16—Without intervention, the Palestinian-Israeli situation is a cockpit for World War III. The strategic situation of Southwest Asia is one of incredible danger, now escalating in a way that the spill-over can ignite a global conflagration.
March 27, 2025 (EIRNS)—Some time soon, perhaps even by the time you read this, British intelligence infiltrators in the Trump Administration may have forced the resignation of one of the senior officials of the Presidency.
Feb. 28—Tuesday’s unexpected, stunning message to both the Democratic and Republican Parties, in the form of the 101,000 “uncommitted” votes in the Michigan Democratic primary cast against the United States’ immoral policy of supporting Benjamin Netanyahu’s mass murder in Gaza, exceeded the stated objectives of its “Listen to Michigan” organizers by one order of magnitude.
