May 23, 2025 (EIRNS)—One day prior to the historic May 24-25 international Schiller Institute Conference, Russia’s TASS news agency published an interview with Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche on the importance of this weekend’s conference for laying out an alternative view for a world in crisis. The full article in English may be viewed here, and in Russian here and here.
They first asked her to comment on the situation facing Europe, where certain pro-war factions want to continue the war against Russia, even if President Trump does not. “Europeans may think they can pursue the conflict in Ukraine without the United States,” Zepp-LaRouche said, but “they don’t have the manpower, they don’t have the physical economy.” Therefore “without the United States, I think this hawkish approach will sooner or later collapse.”They first asked her to comment on the situation facing Europe, where certain pro-war factions want to continue the war against Russia, even if President Trump does not. “Europeans may think they can pursue the conflict in Ukraine without the United States,” Zepp-LaRouche said, but “they don’t have the manpower, they don’t have the physical economy.” Therefore “without the United States, I think this hawkish approach will sooner or later collapse.”
Further, the public support for those governments which make up the “Coalition of the Willing” is collapsing. “The British—catastrophic. Macron—maybe 20% of support in the population … and there are growing oppositions in all of these countries,” she added. To avoid this, the EU is now forced to hold repeated votes until it gets the desired result, as with the recent case in Romania. Clearly, an entirely new approach is needed. Zepp-LaRouche pointed to the growing economies across Asia and the Global South: Rather than collapsing under the weight of sanctions and a war economy, “European countries such as Germany, Italy and France have scientific and technical potential and could help the countries of the global South in their development, which would be mutually beneficial for both sides.”Clearly, an entirely new approach is needed. From this standpoint, Zepp-LaRouche introduced the significance of this weekend’s Schiller Institute conference. TASS reported:
“Zepp-LaRouche also highlighted the importance of alternative views on resolving the crisis. ‘The impact of our conference is not to be underestimated because if a voice like the Schiller Institute presents a clear, optimistic alternative—how do we get out of this crisis?—I think it will have an impact on many forces. Because, for example, in Europe, many people are very scared. In Germany, people are very concerned that everything they have been fighting for and working for in the generations after the Second World War is now going out of the window. It’s collapsing. So if there is a forceful, positive alternative presented, I think it can impact the way people will act,’ she concluded.
“The Schiller Institute will hold a conference on developing joint solutions to global crises and forming a fair world order in the U.S. state of New Jersey on May 24-25. A panel discussion titled ‘Strategic Challenges and the Emerging New Order’ will be the central event of the conference. The event’s participants will discuss the changes in the geopolitical architecture stemming from the current crises, offer alternatives to the policy of confrontation, and consider the possibility of a transition to a multipolar world order based on mutual respect and cooperation.” From this standpoint, Zepp-LaRouche introduced the significance of this weekend’s Schiller Institute conference.
