March 1, 2025 (EIRNS)—As has been proven by economist and statesman Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr., successful—and not merely momentary—survival of the human species is characterized by a series of seemingly sudden, revolutionary changes in the mode of behavior of society which abandon outmoded and sometimes grossly flawed ideas in favor of a more truthful set of principles and way of operating. Such a monumental shift is underway today, though the successful establishment of a new paradigm is by no means secured.
In that light, consider the developments of the past 48 hours.
Described variously as a “fiasco,” “a fierce scolding in the Oval Office,” and “one of the greatest diplomatic mishaps of all time,” the meeting on Friday, Feb. 28 of U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Vlodymyr Zelenskyy has further demonstrated what Helga Zepp-LaRouche told the 91st weekly meeting of the International Peace Coalition: “we are experiencing a very unprecedented change in the strategic situation,” with “tectonic shifts going on which leave some people completely flabbergasted….”
Departing Washington humiliated, empty-handed, and very publicly discredited, Zelenskyy’s next stop, unsurprisingly, was London, where he was warmly embraced and consoled outside 10 Downing Street by a Keir Starmer who renewed his vow of the U.K.’s undying, 100-year support for the Ukrainian cause. After meeting with Starmer on March 1, Zelenskyy will attend a meeting of European elite on March 2, “a moment to take stock” and discuss the next steps in keeping the war in Ukraine going, down to the last Ukrainian.
U.S. officials struck a refreshingly different tone in public comments following the Oval Office meeting, indicative of what Russian President Vladimir Putin noted in a Feb. 27 address to the Federal Security Service Board: “[A] realistic vision of things, [having] abandoned numerous stereotypes, the so-called rules, and messianic, ideological clichés of their predecessors, which, in fact, causes the crisis of the entire system of international relations.”
To wit: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Zelenskyy’s “act of open undermining of efforts to bring about peace … deeply frustrating for everyone,” and declared, “M]y job working for the President is to deliver peace…. Ultimately, that is the job of the State Department. The State Department doesn’t fight wars; it ends them… And that’s usually celebrated." Treasury Secretary [Scott Bessent echoed this primary goal, stating,”It’s impossible to have an economic partnership with someone who doesn’t want to be your partner in peace."
The situation remains perilous. A flight forward into a European military posture aimed at keeping the Ukraine war going, as the British are demanding, and even, as probable next German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called for, extending the nuclear umbrella of British and French nuclear weapons to cover all of Europe, could quickly relight the fuse to World War III.
The situation in Southwest Asia also paints a perilous picture. Phase 1 of the Gaza ceasefire deal reached its end today with no Phase 2 in sight—Israeli negotiators walked out of talks with Hamas representatives on Friday, Feb. 28. A conference will occur in Cairo on March 4 to work out a counterproposal for the reconstruction of Gaza which includes the Palestinians—this or other interventions to pivot the trajectory of the situation in Israel and Palestine are desperately needed.
There is no solution within the habits of thinking which created the problem in the first place; the diseased thinking of geopolitics must be completely and happily abandoned and a new kind of relations among nations formed, which takes into account the security and anti-entropic development of all nations of the human family. This is something that Lyndon and Helga LaRouche and their organization have spent a lifetime in fighting for and is the level onto which the global strategic discussion must be catapulted. Indicative of the necessary level of proposals is Putin’s Feb. 27 call for “a dialogue on creating a system that will truly ensure a balance and mutual consideration of interests, an indivisible European and global security system for the long term, where the security of some countries cannot be ensured at the expense or to the detriment of the security of others countries,” a proposal that resonates strongly with Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s November 2022 call for a new international security and development architecture.
Let us build our capability for successful survival. The Schiller Institute is holding a conference on May 24-25, “A Beautiful Vision for Humanity in Times of Great Turbulence” to greatly advance that aim.
