Feb. 6, 2025 (EIRNS)—Following the flurry of statements over the past two days, a picture of the ominous implications of President Trump’s policy vis-à-vis Gaza is beginning to emerge. “The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting,” Trump said today in a post on Truth Social, and the Palestinians “would have already been resettled in far safer and more beautiful communities.” Gaza “would become one of the greatest and most spectacular developments of its kind on Earth,” he claimed. Who will live in this new, magnificent “Riviera,” one might ask? According to Trump, it will be “the people of the world,” i.e., not the Palestinians.
The proposal has been met with nearly universal denunciation, from leading nations like Russia, China, and Brazil; from the United Nations; from countries across Southwest Asia; and even from significant portions within Trump’s own Republican Party. The absurd nature of the proposal is captured in the overt confusion from the executive branch itself, as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt waffled throughout Feb. 5 and 6 as to whether Trump intended it to be a permanent or temporary “relocation.”
But, though absurd on the surface, the proposal is deadly serious. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Feb. 6 that plans are already being made by the Israeli army for carrying out the mass emigration of Palestinians from Gaza. And one can be sure that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s plan from last year for the post-Palestinian settling of Gaza is more than just waiting in the wings. If executed, this plan will unleash chaos and war across the region, and possibly beyond.
However, another reality is beginning to emerge as well. Namely, the very real end of the imperial “rules-based order,” and the appearance of radical new opportunities that never before would have seen the light of day—both bad and good. As Rubio stated in a Jan. 30 interview with Megyn Kelly, the emergence of the U.S. as the unipolar power “that was an anomaly. It was a product of the end of the Cold War, but eventually you were going to reach back to a point where you had a multipolar world….” Similarly, Trump’s pausing of USAID, in addition to halting crucial funds for humanitarian aid around the world, has also halted one of the key avenues for regime change efforts against so-called “adversaries” of the West. This even included tens of millions of dollars to send Hollywood celebrities—including $20 million for Angelina Jolie—to do a photo shoot with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in order to sell their nuclear proxy-war against Russia to an indoctrinated American audience. If confirmed, the appointment of Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel would further bolster this administration to be able to take on some of the worst pitfalls of the post-JFK world.
Because of these and other actions, the Trump Administration cannot simply be labelled a new brand of fascism or imperialism, though the effects may become just as disastrous. Until then, however, it must be noted that its outcome is not yet determined, and history is actively in the process of being shaped. The future is not a product of the past, so don’t get caught waiting and watching!
Therefore, the LaRouche Oasis Plan must be pushed into the open for consideration immediately—it is the only alternative for an otherwise disastrous situation. The poorly-labelled “Middle East” was the creation of the British Empire over 100 years ago, and the legacy still haunts this region and its people today. Scarce resources, religious divides, and brutal military conflicts are the trademarks of that imperial system—the same imperial system that is now dying and on its way out. Will the world rise to the occasion to replace it? Turning Gaza into an oasis of casinos, golf courses, and luxury tourism will not bring prosperity or peace to anyone, nor will it change the underlying conditions which led to the conflicts. However, creating an oasis through large-scale water and power systems—the fuel for actual economic development—will transform the region and create a solid basis for peace decades into the future.
In concluding her webcast discussion with VIPS member Larry Johnson on Feb. 5, Helga Zepp-LaRouche said: “I think the potential to inject new ideas is absolutely there, because … a lot of the policies will crash against the wall, because they can’t be realized, and then there is an option for something new. We, from the Schiller Institute, keep pushing the Oasis Plan, which is right now being considered by very important forces, from the Middle East, who basically see the joint economic development of the entire region, from India to the Mediterranean, from the Caucasus to the Persian Gulf, as one region, that that is the only way to go. So I think this potential to have a two-state conference in the UN which will take place in June in New York, I think if a lot of discussion can occur on the Oasis Plan between now and then, I don’t want to bet, but I would make a really strong hope, backed up by action, that we will be able to get this Oasis Plan on the table, because it is what makes sense.”
As U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said, “nobody has a realistic solution” other than what Trump has put on the table, and Trump himself said “Tell me what real better alternatives they’ve [the Palestinians] ever been offered.” This is the moment to organize and put a real solution on the table.
