Dec. 27, 2024 (EIRNS)—As the outgoing Biden Administration continues its policy of wreaking havoc, ensuring the next presidency has few, if any, chances of establishing an alternative policy, whole regions of the world are descending into chaos with the encouragement of the Anglo-American establishment. Israel unleashed a new round of airstrikes against Yemen this week, striking two Red Sea ports and the Sana’a International Airport. In addition to hitting largely civilian infrastructure, the bombing of the airport on Dec. 26 came “meters away” from the visiting head of the World Health Organization—leaving him stranded in Yemen until repairs were made today and he evacuated to Jordan.

In Gaza the situation is even worse. Genocide continues unabated, as there are likely more dying now from famine than from bombs. Israel began a siege on Northern Gaza’s only remaining hospital earlier this week, the Kamal Adwan Hospital, and has finally set it on fire. According to reports as of this writing, contact has been lost with all remaining patients and staff at the hospital and it is unclear how many escaped alive.

Meanwhile in Syria, it remains an open question whether the dogs of war can be restrained following the recent toppling of Bashar al-Assad by years of efforts by Western governments. Curfews have been implemented in the cities of Homs, Jableh, and Latakia after waves of protests and fighting left at least several dead. There are worries now that a new round of sectarian warfare will erupt, a situation that is to be avoided at all costs.

However, the larger danger remains that Netanyahu attempts to go for a full-scale war against Iran before Trump enters the White House. As Netanyahu said of Yemen following the Dec. 26 attacks: “We are determined to cut off this tentacle of Iran’s terrorist axis of evil. We will continue until we complete what we have started.” This insane act would not only ignite a massive regional war, but would likely be the trigger for a global war as well, given the new alliances that Iran is a part of.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Beijing Dec. 27 for a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where the two will discuss the 25-year comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and China. Additionally, Iran was granted Observer Status to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on Dec. 25 during the EAEU’s annual heads of state summit. And as if that weren’t enough, it was finally announced that Russian President Putin and Iranian President Pezeshkian will sign a comprehensive strategic partnership between their two nations on January 17 in Moscow.

There is no reason to label these new agreements, and the larger fabric of cooperation, growth, and sovereignty that they are a part of, as “anti-American” or “anti-West.” Rather, the Global Majority is waiting for Western establishments to respect the interests of all, and choose to cooperate with the rest of the world instead of to control it.

All efforts must be made to rein in the drive for war over these next three weeks in particular, both in Southwest Asia and in Ukraine alike. Trump is a wildcard, and will remain one at least until Jan. 20—and likely far after. Therefore, don’t leave it to him to change this dynamic. The difference will be made by those who mobilize today to insist that British geopolitics finally be ended, and that a new security and development architecture that respects the interests of all nations be brought into existence, if the world is to survive into the future.

Friday’s meeting of the International Peace Coalition on Dec. 27 was such a gathering of individuals, and is a grouping which is poised to expand and grow over the coming weeks.
