Nov. 5, 2024 (EIRNS)—At the time of the writing of this briefing, the results of the Nov. 5 presidential elections are still uncertain. However, whatever the result turns out to be, neither candidate’s victory could in itself bring about the decisive changes needed to address the fundamental crises facing the U.S. and the world. Now, more than ever, the main factor which will determine future events will be the role played by a committed minority in bringing to fruition a new dynamic within the bankrupt and imperialistic Western world—a potential which is increasingly obvious to those with eyes to see, though not reflected in the presidential campaigns.
Even if Harris and her pro-war, pro-genocide party are defeated, and even if Trump is actually allowed to take office in January 2025, his stated resistance to some portions of these policies in no way should delude anyone into thinking that he represents a fundamental change from the corruption and depravity of the Western establishment. Even in this case, a force of impassioned organizers capable of communicating and imparting truthful, profound ideas to their fellow citizens, is the only thing that can shift the proverbial ground under the feet of a society which has lost its mooring, and is on its way toward thermonuclear annihilation. Therefore, with that said, consider what is known today:
NATO’s proxy-war in Ukraine is continuing to collapse, and it’s getting harder and harder for even the most entrenched Western analysts to ignore it. The latest example of this is an article by former president of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Haass in Foreign Affairs, who admits that a “revamped strategy” for Ukraine is required. “Washington must grapple with the grim reality of the war and come to terms with a more plausible outcome,” Haass writes, noting the need for Ukraine to accept territorial losses. Haass still makes grievous proposals which Russia will never accept, such as Ukraine eventually joining NATO and receiving heavy weaponry from the West while the conflict is frozen; however, it is at least a slight recognition of reality.
Despite admissions such as this, those in charge still zealously insist on an endless confrontation with Russia. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met with German Chancellor Olaf Schulz on Nov. 4 and declared that Russia is already waging a “campaign of hybrid attacks” against European countries—far beyond Ukraine’s borders—and that NATO is preparing for global confrontation with Russia for the long haul. In the same spirit, NATO is also planning to gear up its activities in Romania in the coming years, and recently held large military exercises there.
Ominously, France, Italy, and the U.K. have all been making plans to expand their military patrols into Asia, making port calls and joint exercises with Japan and the Philippines, in a glaringly obvious provocation toward China. The strategy behind this is to prepare for a larger confrontation with China in Asia, especially as Russia, China, and the BRICS strengthen their cooperation for an alternative to the West’s collapsing system. As Politico Europe’s Matthew Kaminski wrote: “The next world war starts here [in East Asia].”
Rather than accepting that a new dynamic is emerging among the Global South or Global Majority, committed not to being “anti-Western” but to economic development and opportunities for the remainder of the world, the ideologues in Western echo chambers are declaring war against it, and promising eternal rule by their unipolar system.
That same policy is also creating horrific consequences for the people of Palestine, Lebanon, and the rest of Southwest Asia. Israel is continuing its murderous actions, exemplified by its targeting of hospitals, and of humanitarian aid organizations such as UNRWA. The U.S. has given Israel a 30-day warning to improve these conditions, yet does nothing as Israel proceeds, unchecked. Indeed, the U.S. policy-conjurors are held hostage by their own narrative that Western hegemony must rule the Middle East. It is too early to know the reason behind the sudden firing of Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, but Israel’s current policy of war and ethnic cleansing is destructive to itself as well, and is spinning off all kinds of internal strife. If not stopped, this policy will eventually precipitate its own demise—or a nuclear war.
These are the reasons not to become overly obsessed with the presidential elections—there is a bigger job to do. We are at the end of an era, and the continuation of old geopolitical thinking will lead mankind to its own self-destruction. The job of the leader of today is to intervene and cause a political change, the conditions for which don’t currently exist, but the potential for it does. So organize to create a new security and development architecture, and ban British Empire geopolitics for good.
