In a vain attempt to discredit American statesman Lyndon LaRouche, his adversaries accused him of being obsessed with the British empire and British geopolitics, for stating that the British establishment was responsible for the wars of the twentieth century and for the Cold War. He was further mocked for asserting that, in the aftermath of the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963, the U.S. establishment took on the role of co-partner with the British, and then anointed itself as the "Sole Superpower" after the fall of the Soviet Union.
A quick review of recent events which threaten the outbreak of a new world war shows that not only was LaRouche prescient, but his detractor's defense of the manipulation of U.S. policy by the City of London oligarchs and corporate/financial cartels is preventing governments from seeking negotiated settlements for a pathway to peace.
For example, pro-London magazine of the Council on Foreign Affairs (CFR) acknowledged that Boris Johnson did sabotage a negotiated settlement of the Ukraine war (Foreign Affairs, April 16, 2024). The article confirmed that, despite numerous attempts to deny this, accusing anyone of saying this of being a "Putin mouthpiece", Johnson did intervene in May 2022 to convince Zelensky not to accept a deal with Moscow. In return for continuing to sacrifice Ukrainian lives in the proxy war against Russia, Johnson promised Zelensky a blank check by NATO members, to continue fighting against Russia.
As growing opposition from Republican members of the U.S. Congress to continued funding of Ukraine slowed down the delivery of $60+ billion to Ukraine from the U.S., the unpopular, unelected Tory government in the UK continued to push for funding the war. On January 12, 2024, with the stalemate still holding up passage of Biden's war-funding pakage, British Prime Minister Sunak signed a ten-year security pact with Zelensky, beginning with $3 billion for this year. On May 3, this was increased to $3.75 billion for 2024, as Foreign Minister Lord Cameron announced in Kiev that the money is needed to “push back” Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is not just an investment in Ukraine’s security, he said, “but the best possible investment” that Britain could make.
“There is an alternative scenario where we don’t back Ukraine sufficiently, where Putin scores a win here in Ukraine,” Cameron continued. “We’ll be living in a far more unsafe and uncertain and dangerous world that will cost us in so many ways.”
Before his trip to Kiev, Cameron announced the lifting of the agreement prohibiting the use of UK missiles to target Russia, saying "Ukraine has that right," even as Russia warned that any strike on Russian territory by British missiles would be treated as though Britain was actively engaged in the war.
He was backed by Defense Minister Grant Shapps, who told the BBC, “Putin, in many ways, is bluffing this war by putting his entire economy onto a war footing....So, [it is] very important that the West does not blink." He reiterated this on Sky News on May 19, when he bragged, "The United Kingdom has been very forward-leaning about the way that our weapons are used...and other countries didn’t initially do this, but then followed our lead." He concluded, "It is very, very important that the U.S. follows the U.K. lead."
These officials are backed up by non-stop conferences sponsored by pro-empire think tanks such as Chatham House, the Atlantic Council, the CFR and Carnegie Endowment. In addition to calling for continued robust support for Ukraine, themes include promoting the Color Revolution in Georgia, and intervening to break up the burgeoning partnership between Russia and China. Typical of the criminality promoted by these think tanks is the advice given on May 1 by James Nixey, the Director of Chatham House's Russia and Eurasia Program. Nixey wrote that the $300 billion in Russian assets frozen by western banks should be turned over to Ukraine, in violation of international law. Demonstrating the actual meaning of the term "Rules-Based Order", he argued, "History will not judge the West well if it allows Ukraine to fail because it does not wish to contravene international law."
Those not convinced of LaRouche's assessment that the U.S. has become a "dumb giant on a British leash", should read the speech delivered by Henry Kissinger at Chatham House on May 10, 1982. After acknowledging a fundamental disagreement between Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill over the direction of post-war policy -- with FDR pushing an anti-colonial view in contrast to Churchill's intent to retain the empire -- Kissinger added, "Fortunately, Britain had a decisive influence over America's awakening to maturity in the years following." * It is this "decisive influence", reinforced by ties between Anglo-American corporate cartels, defense sector contractors, media, universities, intelligence sectors and think tanks, that is the greatest threat to humanity today.
