Aug. 5—Helga Zepp-LaRouche, the founder and leader of the international Schiller Institute, concluded the Aug. 4 meeting of International Peace Coalition leaders by saying that she was greatly moved by these leaders, from all over the world, responding to a single necessity: rapid intervention to end the NATO-Russia war in Ukraine before it becomes nuclear annihilation.
Mrs. LaRouche had made it her goal to link the “peace through development” forces within the NATO nations in Europe and the United States to the new movement of developing nations of the “Global South” for their sovereignty and economic development. The July 8-9 Schiller Institute conference in Strasbourg, France had that vital joining of peace forces in Europe with developing nations, for a new paradigm, as its explicit subject through two days.
It “was not self-evident” that this linking could happen, she said today, when she began to call for it as a necessity. “But it is happening.” This is evident in all reports of the rallies and demonstrations to stop NATO’s war which began on Aug. 4 in Mexico City and Dresden, Germany, and are taking place in 25 or more cities around the world on August 6, “remember Hiroshima Day,” from Santiago de Chile to Hiroshima itself. For the key demonstration outside the UN at Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza (East 47th Street & 2nd Avenue) in New York City, constituency leaders of immigrant or nationality groups and religious institutions say they will be bringing delegations to join the crowd of activists and supporters of U.S. organizations and parties, at the call of the sponsoring Humanity for Peace.
Helga Zepp-LaRouche said at the Aug. 4 IPC meeting that, while the conventional war in Ukraine is moving to its end, with the continuing useless slaughter of thousands and the total failure of the much-promoted “counter-offensive” by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the danger of the war escalating out of Ukraine into a full-scale NATO-Russia war is in fact increasing, as the massive arms shipments into Ukraine continue and expand to even include cluster bombs. She noted that Pope Francis, speaking at the Aug. 3-4 World Youth Day in Lisbon, Portugal, said that we were experiencing a “Third World War in piecemeal events” around the world, including the threat of war in Africa, as the African states rebel against the colonialist system. The war will not end, Zepp-LaRouche insisted, until the systemic fight is resolved.
Anil Sooklal, South Africa’s ambassador to the BRICS, said that the BRICS Summit in South Africa on Aug. 22-24 will see a “tectonic shift” in history, with the announcement of the expansion of the BRICS, as 22 countries have applied to join, with 20 others showing interest—nearly all having sent no weapons to join NATO’s arming of Ukraine.
This “tectonic shift,” Zepp-LaRouche said, is the end of the colonial era—the kind of transformation which happens only every 1,000 years. It is not enough to be against war, she said, but we must have a new paradigm for peace, which assures a new architecture of security and development for every nation. The United States and Europe must join this new paradigm, not fight it.
Humanity for Peace, the convenor, will live-stream the New York City rally, which begins at 1:00 p.m. EDT Sunday Aug. 6, with reports from other rallies as well.
