The Myrotvorets hit list has added “liquidated” to yet another name. Kiev’s killers have again assassinated a senior Ukrainian opposition figure: An MP in Ukraine’s unicameral Verkhovna Rada, who became an official in his local region after it came under Russian forces, was murdered in his home. According to preliminary findings, MP Oleksiy Kovalyov (33) was found shot dead in his home in Kherson, the Russian criminal investigation authorities announced yesterday via Telegram. His wife was mortally stabbed and died in hospital.
Kovalyov had already survived an car-bomb attack in June. The agricultural businessman had been elected to the Verkhovna Rada in 2019 via a direct mandate in Kherson Oblast for the Servants of the People, the party of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In April, after returning to Kherson region, he was expelled from the party and parliamentary group on suspicion of collaborating with Moscow. The prosecutor’s office investigated him for treason. In the Kherson Oblast occupation authority, he served as deputy head of the oblast and minister of agriculture.
