Nancy Pelosi’s provocative visit to Taiwan, in spite of the warnings by the Chinese Government as well as concerns by the Pentagon, that this would be seen as a gross violation of the fifty-year agreement that has provided the basis of the U.S.- China relationship, has led to a sea-change in the way the world will work going forward. There is basically no trust in the words of the United States in this matter as far as the Chinese are concerned, and without any moves by the U.S. on the ground to indicate that they do adhere to the one-China policy, which under present conditions is highly unlikely, it will be a rough ride and the danger of military conflict cannot be excluded. Given the precarious situation that already exists because of the deterioration of the relationship between the U.S. and Russia, this development has ratcheted up the danger several degrees. Bill Jones joined us this week to discuss.
